no more CGI scripts!!! It seems that they advertise a lot of features, to pull new clients in, but then when one wants to use them (CGI, PHP), they tell you that they are no longer supported but that it be available in a upgraded (paid version). DONT RECOMMEND THEM, PLEASE!!!

Opened an account with them yesterday, but when I tried to get the cgi going today (for Movable type web blog), I was told that they no longer support that - AS OF TODAY! RIGHT!

Anynone with other/better experience post it here please.

Thanks

Are you complaining or looking for a new host?

..guess this qualifies as a complaint. Anyhow I was oddly surprised with them in the past, when I found that someone was using my space under my username. In the end I had no reply from either the person running the page in my webspace nor from Portland - deleted it.

Also, when you look at their support pages, it becomes clear, that things are not very much upto date, with announcements of upcoming changes - yet the posting dates are 2001 and no changes where made... etc...

Mmmmhh, should have known better then to go back to them.

But if anyone knows of a web space provider with:

- No ads
- CGI & Perl
- FTP
- +/- 15 MB space

please post here

thanks

So many to choose from in the "Free Hosting Offers" Forum or "Free Host FAQ" thread in "Free webspace" Forum...:doh!:

Feel free to choose one you like best.

Portland had a lot of abuse this year, which made the service very unreliable for everyone. After disabling CGI on the free accounts on 10/05/03, I haven't logged any downtime (in my daily checks), and the FTP and download speed has been great. You'll get no complaints from this user!

Look in the Free Web Space Offers forum.. there are LOTS of providers there that can give you just what you want :)
