I have a new computer which I want to transfer all of my files onto from my old computer. I've tried to use a cable to connect the two but it isn't working..I even got a computer technician and he couldn't do it..SO..I thought about getting a zip drive but I don't want to buy something for at least one hundred bucks and never use it more then once. Anyone know any other ways to transfer my files..it would be of great help..THANKS

To connect them, you could get two ethernet cards, and then some sort of a hub, if you wanted them connected like that. I don't know much about networks, but I bet there is some info about this somewhere.

Were you using a cross-over cable? You won't be able to transfer files from computer to computer with a straight-through (a standard patch cable) unless you have a hub between the two machines. There's no reason why that shouldn't work, but if it still doesn't...

You could get a CD burner for one computer. I don't think they cost much more than a ZIP drive, and the media (cd-rw and cd-r) are loads cheaper than zip disks, plus they hold 750MB of data!

You'd probably use it more than once too, if for nothing else than burning music cd's. The good thing is that you'd only need to buy one, since your other computer should be able to *read* the CD just fine.

Actually..my old computer has a cd burner but it hasn't been working..there is something wrong with it.

As for the other stuff you guys said about moving hard drives..I guess that will be are last option..

Any other opinions??
