I'm very new to this so please excuse my basic questions.
1. What does CPM stand for???
2. Are there any advertisers that pay you just for placing banners on your site (without having to click the banner)??
If so can I have a list of URLs to some good ones please.
Thanks

not unless you want them too... Although there's been a period where engage had a pop-up rotating in their inventory, but this is no subject where you should be picky. Not with these four, anyway
You can also give the following a try, if rejected by the four above.
1. Banner-Mania (http://www.banner-mania.com)
2. FocusIN (http://www.focusin.com)
3. ContentZone (http://www.contentzone.com)
4. Luna Network (http://www.lunanetwork.com)
5. Ad-Up (http://www.ad-up.com)
6. Burst Media (http://www.burstmedia.com)
Best of luck :)

Out of interest Czar, why has Burst become so low?
Sorry, I should have specified that the list above is presented in no particular order. Actually, I would put Burst 2nd in that particular list (behind only Luna) if I was ranking them in terms of quality and payouts.

Are all of these usable in the United Kingdom?
Most, if not all, accept UK-based publishers.
If in doubt, check the terms and conditions associated with each of these programs for clarification.
CPM does mean copst per thousand. M is the roman numeral for 1,000.
