I dont think that is an option with vb.
I have seen it on phpBB and i think ubb. If you really want to talk to someone that bad ask for their ICQ#, AIM,MSN,or Yahoo handle.

It isn't really a substitute for a chat room, these forums substitute a chat room. The IM thing substitutes an Instant Messenger.
