of course it goes away shortly but i still hate it!
- so do i assume its outputing this thru my pc-speaker, an if so how to shut that off?

2. does an amd cpu cause more blow sound than a pent cpu as via the case fan? - an my new amd cpu seems to :(

1. There should be a sound setting somewhere...dunno.
2. No, the CPU doesn't control how fast the case fan blows. The heatsink might be louder however.

Go into your volume control and under advanced settings there is a modem sound bar.

try getting the dust out via compressed air. Sometimes clogged fans make noise.

Sometimes noise from a computer is caused by the carb being clogged on the motherboard which makes the cpu wheel drag against the fifth slot, thus causing noise. Since the fifth slot is a micro transitor unit, it can cause the noise to feed thru the led fibers and on to the speakers.

carb clogged? I didn't know computers had carburetors ;)

My suggestion would be the implementation of a Louisville Slugger to the side of the case. If that doesn't work, reboot and try again.

A heatsink is just an aluminum or copper block... it's not possible for it to make noise.

I meant the heatsink fan.

but i wonder, do modern modems now have built-in fans, tho smaller than one on a vid card?
or is the horrible sound i get, just coming thru the pc-speaker?????

I believe that it is your pc case. I was watching the screen savers and I fount out that pc cases as air is blown onto them it tends to make noise I would reccomend lowering the speed of the rate at which your fans spin. * How ever if you dont know what you are doing I would leave it.

Turn down the wave sound via volume control.

Some modems do make a hell of a noise when you are connecting. My first one did and I assumed that was all part of it, but why worry about it? The noise stops when you are connected anyway :confused2 I have been at other people's place when they connect and some were so noisy compared to what I thought mine was.

I like the ADSL modem though, not a sound to be heard :cool2:

ps - mine sounds like a cat sliding down a blackboard with its claws out - beat that:(

I like the sound of the modem, it tells me if it's connecting properly or if I'm in for problems.
