Tripod is unsafe now?????

I had read lot of complaints about Tripod in this web side http://100best-free-web-space.com/index.htm.It was because Tripod suddenly deleted thousands member sites with no notice! It's true?
Have somebody using http://www.9ug.com/and http://angelfire.lycos.com/ ,it is good?

I used to like 9ug, but haven't used it since they added banners to the pages.... but back then, their speed wasn't bad... and the technical help I got was pretty good.

The accounts on Tripod was delete due to a hardware failure (hardrive or a computer died, I think) I don't think they go around nuking accounts just for fun. ;)

This is only a rumour, a server died taking all its hardware with it including its hard drives, since they seemed to have kept no backups thousands of accounts dissappeared off the face of the earth.

At a later date, Tripod actually did post an apology on its site and attempted to restore the deleted sites. I can't remember the URL of that notice though.
