View Full Version : Unprofessional hosts!

Lately, I (and other mods) have had to clean up several threads, either for rules abuse, thread crapping, general insults. It really surprises me that a few people have actually chosen some of you to be their host, I guess they are desperate for the cheapest deal they can get and professionalism doesn't come into it.

Let me show you the rules again

Additional rules for the Paid Hosting and Dedicated Hosting forum

If you wish to praise a web host or warn people about a bad web host you can't be anonymous. Post your
own URL (webaddress), otherwise your post will be deleted.

Hosts are welcome to participate on the Paid Hosting forum, but are not allowed to start new threads or
advertise their business by plugging their company and/or URL.

Hosts are allowed to post answers about their company and services if asked by someone on the board.
They are also allowed to reply to a request for hosting services if the following conditions are met:

When answering a request, you must include
1. The URL to the plan
2. The price
3. Describe or name the features that match the original request.

For instance, if someone asks, "Which webhosts offer 12 gigs of traffic?" If you offer such a package or
know someone that does, you may respond only if you describe what you offer in that message in the
format described above. Simply saying "we offer what you want, visit our site" is clearly spam and is not
allowed.

Hosts may NOT respond to general questions posted by members who are looking for
advice/opinions/suggestions/recommendations on which host to choose.

For instance, if someone asks, "I need at least 20 MB and FrontPage 98 support for less than $15, which
host do you recommend?", then clearly this question is not directed to a webhost. It is directed to other
webmasters who would be able to recommend a service.

Feel free to recommend other hosts which might meet the person's needs.

Obviously web hosts are not allowed to post "how does this offer we have sound?" To be fair, new or
possible future hosts are not allowed to do this either unless they stay completely anonymous. (That
means no url, no host name, no name, no email address etc.)

If you are a webhost you may not post bad comments about other hosts.
If you can't at least try to be professional, then I will start a new user group that will block you from this area.

You have been warned!

Hey Jan I have noticed the puttin down of other hosts by hosts and I have responded to that by tellin them not to accordin to the rules. Is that ok? because each time I do both of the posts are deleted mine and the person puttin down the host.

No professionalism comes from 3 dollar per year unlimited bandwidth hosts. :bandit2:

LOL ... I'll have to remember that :applaudin

If I had it my way. no host under a year old would be able to respond to requests since most of them are those $3/yr unlimited hosts which close their doors within in a few months of opening. It would save a lot of people from getting ripped off.

The value of services provided by a hosting company does not indicate their professionalism level.

Report the post is better than replying, okay it won't give you a post count, but it will stop the further insults that usually follow such comments.

I would just like to say my company isn't new, but we are new to hosting services. If I do anything out of line, please let me know. I don't want to ruin the reputation of Mattsoft. I'm not out to make a profit from this either. I'd be happy to have enough hosted clients just to pay a bill or 2. I'd also like to hear any tips other hosts are willing to reveal. :biggrin2:

Just as an update:

When answering a request, you must include
1. The URL to the plan
2. The price
3. Describe or name the features that match the original request.

Please take the time to read the post and offer what is requested, do not copy and paste all your plans. That shows you don't take time to read.

If you are a webhost you may not post bad comments about other hosts.

Just wondering if free webhost are allowed to post bad comments about other paid hosts.

Hell, I never put down hosts, its not being professional its being curtious (sp?). But as for being professional, Screw that, I don't want to have a convo like this:
User: I need some help
Admin: Sir, what would be the problem
User: PHP isn't working
Admin: Well sorry sir your plan does not cover PHP

I want to be like this:
User: I need some help
Admin: Don't we all, be more specific
User: PHP isnt working
Admin: your plan doesnt cover that but if you promise not to abuse it i will give you limited access

BTW there is no limit to php and you cant. that was an example, being professional is boring an makes you just another webhosting zombie, being a little professional is fine though.

I preffer the proffesionnal way:

Custumer: The server seems ot be offline, could you please take a look
Admin: We apologise for the downtime. Apache needed to be restarted, it should work within the next 10-15 minutes
Custumer: Thank You
*Custumer leaves the chat...*

and not:

Cutumer: The server seems ot be offline, could you please take a look
Admin: Yeah I know, I'll check it out tomorow or something, I'm a lil busy with my own stuff right now, sorry
*Admin leaves the chat...*

it would never be a good idea to be THAT unprofessional. I like to be professional with a personal touch. being there when the customer needs me, but not being so "professional" that I can't go out of my way to help someone, or give something away for free.

if there was a way I could pay for the hosting account, I'd offer free hosting too.
