Why do u guys even talking about free redirectionservices when u can have a FREE own http://www.urname.com.kg domain!
Check mine out, http://www.dennisliljeback.com.kg, it works greta veven if it took some time to activate it. I really recommend it, even if u don't know DNS, just use mydomain.com......

have you been there lately? it's so freaking easy to do now, seriously. go check it out, they totally streamlined the i.d. application and signup processes. you don't have to worry about submitting any emails any more with tons of info. just need your i.d. number and two or more nameservers.

Keith, are you talking of com.ru or com.kg?
I am not sure, if I want to have a ru-domain, but I am thinking about it. Do you get traffic with a site in english with a ru-domain? I believe kg is very exotic and lots of people don't know what kg is, but probably they know what ru is. So I believe, that kg is better than ru. What is your opinion?

Just curious here. Is a domain in .ru free too (like the subdomains in .kg)? If so, what's the URL to the registrar?

I forget to mention .ar subdomains are also free, but to sign-up is *very* hard. Don't try net.ar if you are not an registered isp.

http://www.ripn.net/nic/dns/en/common.html
in .NET.RU zone - organization, which takes part in developing of Internet, for the purpose of realization of Internet development projects
in .ORG.RU zone - non-commercial organization
in the .COM.RU zone - commercial organization
in the .PP.RU zone - individual person
Foreign organizations can register domains in .RU, .COM.RU, .NET.RU, .ORG.RU and .PP.RU zones, acting both as administrators and payers. Such organizations can fail to have their offices in Russia and can use services of non-Russian providers.

I don't get it!
Ok.. but why would you want a .ru when you aren't russian?
Albert
May 27th, 2001, 05:10
Maybe because you have a webpage which is interesting to Russians?
But I agree, if you don't have an interesting for site for Russians don't use ru. (same with ar). At the other hand, *.*.kg are so easy to register and free, that this is the best alternative to get a free domain.

The site is right... but nic.kg wont work you have to include the "www". www.nic.kg (http://www.nic.kg)
yourname.kg - NOT free
yourname.com.kg- free
yourname.net.kg- free
yourname.org.kg- free
Steps to registering a free *.*.kg
1. go to www.nic.kg (http://www.nic.kg)
2. Register to get a personal ID
3. Next click the domain link to go register ur domain.
4. Type the name u want and REMEMBER to change the default .kg and choose a *.*.kg from the list. Then follow the instructions they give.
I hope this helpful and stated everyhting clearly.

nic.kg (http://nic.kg) www.nic.kg (http://www.nic.kg) www.domain.kg (http://www.domain.kg) domain.kg (http://domain.kg)
All 4 go to the same site...
[note:even w/o the "www" they work, at least for me]

There are advantages and disadvantages to both .com.ru and .com.kg.
The .kg's are easier to find hosting for, and are easier to register. The downside is they take their time getting propagated over the net.
The .ru's are more complicated to register, and you have to have a host with more restrictive nameservers. However, they come up in about a day if you have that.
I tried for a .com.ar, but kept getting invalid request messages and gave up.

You can't register domains thru URLs without the "www". You can apply for PIDs and stuff, but the domain registering script won't function without the "www" part.
