Do you really get traffic from links you put on others' websites thru link exchange ?

Link exchange is a long term method.

They will most likely refuse a 10$ cpc thing for a link back.

gulp, you can only try.

It probably depends on what sort of people you contact. If you get someone who started out young and struggling, that knows how hard it is to get traffic initially, they might do it out of sympathy.

You have to link swap with sites of similar topics, though a lot of webmasters will see this as competition, so it's unlikely really.

Test it out a few times, with a polite, sensible email, and see what response you get. Unless you get flamed out from everyone, keep trying. It'll probably only take one good site, and you'll get more traffic.
