It says on the bottom of this page, "Powered by: vBulletin Version 1.1.6 , Copyright ©2000, Jelsoft Enterprises Limited." and is linked to http://www.commission-junction.com/track/track.dll?AID=804495&PID=239184&URL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Evbulletin%2Ecom so I would assume that that's what powers this board.

Try Ikonboard (CGI) or phpBB (PHP), depending on what services your webhost offers. They are both free and relatively similar to this board.

how exactly is it worth the price? blaze board, ikonboard, and phpbb are all free and they are all just as good

I don't know about that... This board is pretty good. I don't think those free ones are as good as this, maybe phpbb, but not ikonboard.

what makes vbb better than ib?

the answer is nothing...

people can post, people can mod, people can admin...

ib may even be better because you can customize it more... al vbbs look exactly alike... while my ib at http://sportsu.hobbiton.org has nothing that looks like it...

the menu is in the template instead of ikon.lib on my board, i took it out of ikon.lib

I have set up so many free boards such as Ikonboard, YaBB, Blazeboard, XMB, tForum, and phpBB and I have found that phpBB is the best and it is so fun to put hacks in them. Well, of course this is only my opinion. :)

Also, when I went to the ikonboard.com, I have found that it is slow. It is running the latest version and yet it is slow. Has anyone notice this or is it just me?.

The essentual difference phpBB from IkonBoard -
the first use a mySQL database. This + php works faster than perl with mySQL databases. I mean, if even iB use mySQL.
In general mySQL gives more functionality for searches/changes in files. I.e. fast running.
The most functional and fastest tools as a rule win.

I find Revamp.net has all the features of the $160 Dollar one... and it is free.. what a rip-off that $160 Bucks one is!

well,i know a site where you can download vbulletin and ubb for free,but i don't want to use them since they use Mysql and it's hard to find a good-free mysql host out there...so i rather use ikonboad ;)

I personaly prefer UBB (Ultimate Bulletin Board)
and you can do just about anything with it,

go take a look at http://www.ubbdev.com and take a look at their site, now show me a Vb site that looks that good?

Why would anybody pay 160$ for vB? phpBB is free and I think it's pretty fast. Also Most people integrate it into their site so it look like it's a part of your site. I didn't see that with vB (not mutch peopel using it :D)

I don't see how the ubbdev forum looks good. It's exactly like this one but with a nice colour scheme and some cool "U" icons. Anyone can create the same thing with vBulletin.

if you install the avatar hack of phpBB it does.
I think ikonboard is perl(cgi).

Both Ikonboard and YaBB have the avatar (picture under name) feature by default

Take a look at this phpBB board below. It has many hacks in it and it also has the avatar hacks under the users name. You can have personal avatar or chose the ones from the list when you register. phpBB is great because you can customize the board as you see it. It is also really fun to add hacks.

P.S. phpBB is fast also. This board has the old version 1.2.1 but the newer version 1.4 is already out. Because of it using php, you can also optimize its speed if the host has Zend Optimizer. The above board has a special hack code (for compression) to speed things up.

uBB, Ikon board, phpBB ..... no WaY !

I have used them all and none ...NONE ! are are nice as vBulletin !

vBulletin is totally customizable. It is very complicated to program & custom hack php, but the people who know the language, do an incredible job with the graphics.

It is the fastest board, has the most resources, is more SECURE than any of the others in regards to the control panel and supports all custom configurations that an experienced php programmer can integrate.

These are all different examples of various features that can be integrated into vBulletin's Database.

This is version 1.1.6 the current version is R2 RC 3 & its sweet... and soo much easier to use than this version.

Anyways thats my opinion.

IB is good but not secure, Vb 2 is very nice, check out http://www.net4nowt.com/forum/index.htm they have now changed over from ezboard to vb.

Ikonboard makes html files too so the speed those download cant be any faster
