View Full Version : I've got the domain registered... but no space!

Well, I just updated to the Namezero PLUS service, and I decided that I'd like to actually have stuff stored on my domain. Meaning, I don't just want to cloak another URL. Like, for example...
http://www.mydomain.com/blahblah.html
Instead of just http://www.mydomain.com/ hiding the real URL.
Since Namezero doesn't provide space with your domain (I don't mind that part, since a lot of other services cost even more), what do I do now? Is there any place that provides space solely for domains?

To do this you must change registers

How do I do that? This is so complicated. *sighs*

You mean you need a fee domain host? The only one I've tried is http://www.portlands.co.uk. They have some problems, lousy support and allow very low bandwidth but apart from that - FTP, CGI, SSI and I think PHP and no ads. It's not a good host, but you survive.
Here you find all free domain hosts listed here:
http://www.freewebspace.net/php/search.php?a=1&b=0&form_language=&form_location=&form_space=0&form_adtype=&form_features%5B%5D=Domain&form_title=&form_hostType=REG&i=10&submit=Search
Also search he Forums, both free and paid, since there have been a lot of topics on d. hosting lately.

problem is u can't change the dns on namezero Plus , so if u want domainhosting , you will have to transfer your domain to another registrar (like gkg , powerpipe , ...). First make sure namezero changed the whois info and added 1 year to your domainregistration , then e-mail namezero about this (to unlock your domain).
After that contact another (normal) registrar to transfer your domain (about 8-9$ and u get 1 extra year registration).

got the same problem with NameZero Plus.
Already contacted the support twice, but didn't get the answer I was looking for.
Namezero registered the domain with NetworkSolutions or WorldNic (should be the same). And you would need to change your DNS-server there... BUT it's not enought to have access to your email. You would need to get a password! What you want to do is send a fax to NetworkSolutions with copy of your picture-id and your signature...
I did try that... But it takes about a week... (And I am not sure if the fax sending worked... cause my old PC was almost crashing sending the grafic...)
If I gain access and can change the DNS of my NameZero Plus account I will let you know.
Another possibility is to transfer domain out to another registrar. BUT you need to own the domain at least for 60 days!! I will try doing that later on.
Greetings

akersche,
what form did you send to NSI ? I think I'll try that too, but I don't know where to find the form to fax.
Thanks

Here you go my mate _capa_ and keep me posted, if you got success. There is even an express service, when you pay for it. (I did choose to wait and not to pay)
Thank you for contacting Network Solutions.
To protect the integrity of your domain information,
we regret that we can not give your account information
via this e-mail, nor can we modify it for you.
During the initial purchase of the domain name, the Account
holder e-mail address should have been provided during registration.
If the e-mail address is still active, you may visit the following
link to request the password be sent to that address:
https://www.networksolutions.com/account/retail_a1.jhtml
Once you have reached the Account holder login, select the
"Retrieve Password" option.
If the email address is no longer active, for security reasons
we require that a fax be sent to resolve this situation.
IMPORTANT: The fax must include all of the following:
a) Your account number/domain name
b) If the domain is registered to a company, the fax must be on
company letterhead, with the signature and title of an officer
who can legally bind the company.
c) If the domain name is registered to an individual, the request must
be accompanied by a photo-copy of a state issued ID or Passport of
the Registrant. Please be sure to enlarge and lighten your
photo-copy so that your transmission will be legible.
d) Phone number and email address.
e) Select a new password between 4 and 8 characters
f) Select a new challenge question and answer from the list below.
1) What city were you born in
2) What is your mother's maiden name
3) What are the last 4 digits of your Social Security number
4) What school did you first attend
Due to numerous attempts to corrupt files of domain records
by unauthorized persons, if any of the above items is missing the faxed request will not be processed. We regret the inconvenience, however, it is necessary to protect the integrity of our clients' information.
Normal fax processing takes 3-5 days, however, we do offer
an Expedited Service for $29.95. If you are interested in this service, please call our Customer Service Hotline at 1-800-779-1710, ext 5666.
Please fax the above requested documents to our fax number below:
703-326-7000 ATTENTION: PASSWORD LIAISON
Thank you again for contacting Network Solutions, we appreciate your patience in this regard, and your continued patronage.
Sincerely,
Justin H
