HowTo: link software from my site?

I now have 'always on' DSL and understand I need a firewall.
I was directed to http://www.apache.org/ for the answer last time but they don't realy say HowTo use my own PC to store software and link them to my website.

Does anyone have first hand knowledge?

I`m not sure on this but if I`m right you`ll have to set your system up as a server, thus when you`re connected to the net your chosen drive becomes available from an IP address to any one that knows about it, hope that made sense, sorry I can`t help you more.
