I've gone searching through the forum and have found the following free hosts with MySQL support. Could you guys give me some feedback on what one would be the best to go with.

What I'm wanting to do with a free host is get my database (DBMAN SQL (http://www.gossamer-threads.com/scripts/dbman-sql/index.htm)) and website all sorted out on a free host first so I don't have to have to pay while I'm developing it. As soon as I've finished I'm planning on changing to a paid hosting provider (just want to use a free host as a test bed). The only other requests I have is that the free host has:

* 20-30MB
* Not sure how much bandwidth I would need but the more the better I guess...
* FTP Access
* Perl/SSI Support
* Banners aren't a problem.

The list of hosts with MySQL support:

http://hosting.datablocks.net/
http://www.freesql.org/
http://www.freemagix.com/
http://www.hostonfly.com/
http://home.cjb.uni.cc/
http://www.spaceports.com/
http://www.spites.com/
http://www.f2s.com/
http://www.wzpro.com/
http://www.yupapa.com/index.shtml
http://www.isamillionaire.com/services.html
http://www.dacities.com/

I've also noticed from reading some older threads that some of the above free hosts have some pretty awful "Terms Of Service, i.e. http://hosting.datablocks.net/ so the more information I can be given the better.

One other off topic thing. Does anyone know what an "AIM ID" is?

U can eliminate f2s there, only give 5MBs of MySQL.

Freesql.org only gives the sql database, so you'd have to find another host to use with it.

I think I would prefer to have it all together so that rules freesql.org out as well.

AIM ID? AIM stands for AOL Instant Messenger, you figure the rest out.

Thanks for that. Does anyone else have any comments? I've only got two responses so far :(

I like datablocks ... fast & uptime is good , php/cgi/mysql , no ads ...
I don't really care about their TOS , they can steal my content if they want ;)

I should go with http://www.freedom2surf.net, good host gives you 20MB with MySQL or PostgreSQL, so you can actually choose, no ads, plus unlimited pop3 emails..

I guess location really makes a difference then... cuz from where I am, datablocks is *real* slow at loading as well as sending the files up to it.

To my knowledge you only get 5 megs of database space.

Yes that is correct. You get 20 megs of space but only a 5 meg database.

I wouldn't want them to steal my content so that rules them out.

I think 20MB with 5MB for a MySQL database should be enough for testing so I think I'll go with them. I just want to get my database sorted out, do some testing, etc and then I'm planning on leaving and going to a paid hosting provider.

Any other suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated though...

does anyone here use a freesql.org database regularly? I've recently been having trouble connecting to the server...
