I'm looking for a deticated server. for right now, my budget is around $40 a month. I can go a little higher if I have to. it has to be a linux server, with apache, php, mysql, and cpanel preinstalled. I would like fantastico and rvskins also, but I might be able to get those myself if I have to. for hardware, processor mhz doesn't matter too much, 128mb ram, 20gb or 40gb ide hard drive, and I would need some kind of automatic backups. bandwidth can be anywhere from 50gb to 1000gb. it should be an unmanaged server, cuz I have another company who will assist me in managing it.

sorry, forgot something, I would prefer a server at NAC in New Jersey if possible, cuz I've had a good experience with them, but offers in other datacenters are ok too.

You won't get ---- for $40 a month. Especially NOT in NAC.
Unless you go to RackShack.com and look at their Bargain Basement, but even there, it's $99 a month or so.
Cheapest I've heard is managed.com and BurstNet, both offer $69 a month servers.

I think I'm gonna get a server from http://beachcomber-creations.com/linux-budget-dedicated.shtml they look like a pretty good service. it's partly managed, and located at NAC too. it will just take me a little extra time to get a server, cuz it costs more

their servers start at $90, but are really good. no setup fee, lots of features, and 100% uptime the last 2 months. btw, you could tell them I referred you if you want. :-)

It was a gag - think about what you would get for $40, it would be as described above :classic2: Wasn't in relation to any particular provider :-)

I'd like to start a small datacenter in the back of my computer store oneday. buy up a bunch of amd 500's or something and rent those out for $40 a month. they run pretty good. I have one, and it's bus speed is only 33mhz lower then my athlon xp 2000. might be a good investment.

You do realise that DC's have to have everything from blast walls, backup generators & halon extinguishing systems??
And that's not including data integrity, connectivity, security provision..............I could go on
Don't even think about it unless you have millions up front - it's what I do and it's not easy.

yeah, but still. rackshack started out in their basement. I wonder how damp that was :-S in the back of a computer shop would be a good start. get some big ups's cheap, a camera or 2.. I know someone who has one of those extinguishing systems they're not using, and the power hardly ever goes out, so maybe a generator and a big power conditioner. maybe $500 in parts plus a few servers and $100 a month for dsl

what about them? manage.com doesn't work for me, onestopserver is ok, and aaawebmasters is kinda a poor design, I think.
