Dear ValueClick Publisher,

This message is to notify you that effective May 30, 2001 ValueClick will be terminating our referral program. According to our records, you have participated in that program in the past. Essentially we have outgrown the need for our referral program and it no longer makes sense given the current return on our referral payments. We will pay you for all referred clicks through May 30, 2001. We may choose to start this program up again in the future and if we do so, you will be one of the first publishers notified. Please remove any referral code that you may have on your site as it will no longer function in our system. If you have any questions or concerns, please email help@valueclick.com.

Same here. I make $30+ a month in referals from just the one guy.

How disappointing. :( I've been participating in ValueClick's referral program for years, and have yet to receive that notice.

Anyway, I've always considered their treatment of referrers to be rather shady, having had one of my accounts cancelled previously for a dubious reason (they claimed I was underserving), when most of that account's revenue came from referral earnings.

don't think it's because of the recession... they probly just closed it because it's a 'waste' of money. They don't need it anymore seeing as their name is one of the biggest in the CPC industry.

And because the last thing they need right now is more publishers...as unfortunate as that is for us.

In fact, I'm amazed that so many other selective networks are still operating referral programs. I can understand why SI are doing so, since there's is a business model built on high volume, low margins, but most networks have limited volume to work with, so building their inventory too rapidly can only hurt their existing publishers.

(not that I'm complaining, of course, since I participate in a number of referral programs ;))
