Fluent English Speakers Only

Panther Hosting is currently running a testing service before it goes open to business. We are in need of people who want hosting to test our service and provide feedback on our site and servers. This should mean that we have the feedback and knowledge to make our hosting company the best is can be when it opens for business.

If you are interested in helping in the test and having free cpanel hosting please read the chunk of information below from our site:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Free Hosting Plan

The Free Hosting Plan is designed as a testing service for both customers and the admins before Panther Hosting is open for business. We hope that this will provide us with the feedback and knowledge that is needed to make Panther Hosting the Best Hosting service available.

All those who are interested are open to sign up and will be provided with a free hosting account with at least 100mb space and all standard services, php, cgi, mysql and others. This will all be controlable via the cpanel administration software and you will also have your own client area within the lpanel software. All that we ask is that you provide us with feedback on the service that we provide. If you are interested please read on below.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you wish to have a free hosting account please email accounts@pantherhosting.co.uk with the following details:

· Your Full Name
· At least one always accessible means of contacting you (an email address and, or, an instant messenger utility)
· What you wish to use the account for and how much space and bandwidth you believe you may need. Please also specify what services (such as php or mysql) you will be needing.

Please understand that as this is a free service you will not be provided with 24/7 support and your account may be cancelled at any time without warning. We also ask that anyone interested in hosting adult sites or anything of an illegal nature, such as mp3s, does not ask for hosting.

Thank you,

Alan MC Gore, President of Panther Hosting.Fluent English Speakers Only

Just an update on requirements. I hate to have to enforce this but I can't accept anyone with a less than normal level of English. I and my team are UK based and do not cater for non English speakers at the moment. Therefore if you have a less than average master of the English language please do not get it touch.

This is not anything against race or prejudice towards any language, its just a thing about understanding and communication when providing feedback and working with us.

The good news is, we may be getting multi lingual support. When we do have the support in place, I will contact those who have been turned down on language terms and let you know about the changes.

I understand that, and it is is nothing personal towards anyone who has asked for hosting. But we are getting regular contacts from people from Asia asking for hosting. Whilst a large percentage are legible a lot aren't specific on details. Which makes setting up an account and receiving feedback quite difficult.

There is also the problem of time differences, which it can be hard to work around.

As Said in my previous post we are working to get around these problems and hopefully for the future there will not be this boundry.

In the mean time Johnamix, you're from Belgium if I'm correct? I meant to get back to you about hosting and if you can pm me an instant messenger address, we can discuss on MSNM or AIM.

Hi :)

Just a few quick questions. How long are you planning on offering the free hosting? Is this a one time thing for those who sign up now and then once you go online it will be as a paid hosting service only? You said this is a beta test service. Does that mean that once you go online, those accounts with the free hosting will be shut down? Are the accounts ad free? If not, what kind of ads and where are they on the page? I have a chatroom on my website and ads might interfere with that.

Thanks!

pantherhost
March 30th, 2004, 09:47
It is not decided what will happen to the free hosting accounts once we go live. But it may be up to a year before we do infact go live and it is unlikely we will remove the accounts at that time. The possibilities on what will happen to free hosting plan clients when we open for business are the following.

- We will charge standard fees for hosting - not likely
- We will charge reduced fees for hosting - possible
- We will continue the service free - possible
- We will delete the clients accounts - highly unlikely.

Before we go live all clients will be informed on what is going to happen and have the option to backup their data.

Next Question,
Yes as said, the accounts are advert free and there will not be any adverts on the cpanel, lpanel or Panther Hosting homepage.

If you're still interested, feel free to get in touch.

Thanks,
Pres. Panther Hosting,
Alan M C Gore

www.pantherhosting.co.uk is still up and online, as warned in the terms you may experience downtime as this is a time when we are doing work on the servers.

A few special notes I'd like to make to people are as follows.

We no longer provide subdomains, but you can obtain a free domain name which is compatible with our servers at www.uni.cc

We will also be closed for the next few days due to the death of a much loved staff member. Therefore your emails may not be responded to within the next week.

Thanks,
Pres. Panther Hosting,

Just a quick note to anyone who wants to know about shell and server level access.

We do not provide shells or shell level access to anyone of the servers, this is a matter of principle and won't be changed until we feel shell server software is secure enough to allow it.

Please accept my apologies on this matter and understand that we aim to be a secure host at all times.

I am aware this hasn't been very clear in the past due to the amount of posts and the site template editing. But we require the following details in the signup email sent to accounts@pantherhosting.co.uk

------------------------------------------------------------------
Your full name

At least one always accessible means of contacting you (an email address and, or, an instant messenger utility)

What you wish to use the account for and preferably a preview of an already designed site.

The primary domain name you plan to use with us. If you don't already own one you can obtain one for free at www.uni.cc .

The username and password you would like to use with your account.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Sending all these details helps us process accounts much faster and will mean you receive your welcoming email a lot quicker.

Yes ;) It depends which server you are on, some have 4 others have 2 but Cpanel reads it as 4. Either way you will always be on a powerful server.

We have recently been considering implementing Google advertisements into all free hosts web pages. This would help fund the free hosting accounts and also allows us to keep all accounts open and active after we open for business.

Google Adverts are text based and can be implemented into a site in any form, be it a button, banner, or skyscraper bar. They are completely customisable so that they blend in with your sites. We would even offer technical support and help for all users in adding the code into their pages.

There are no bugs or sneaky scripts in the adverts just very basic JavaScript that should cause no disruption to a web page and should not result in any surfers being pushed away. The adverts even adjust to the content of your pages, so for example if you are running a site about coffee the adverts will display relevant adverts about coffee companies and pages with information on coffee.

We have not as yet implemented these adverts as a requirement for all users, before we do any such move we would like feedback from those who are already using our service and those who are interested in applying for it.

Please post replies containing your thoughts about adverts so that we can help make Panther Hosting the best host possible.

Sincerely,

The Panther Hosting Team

i think u'd better give out a smaller plan
In fact ,i think , for most people , 10M space ,200M bandwidth is enough.the owner of a such a small website dont like ads at all,and u can hardly got benefit from this website for too little visitors.

for those who manager a bigger website, they dont care about ads, they want a stable provider to support their website, they want the high speed and enough bandwidth.

so i think you can give out two plan:
plan A: 10M storage 200M transfer ad free
plan B: 300M sorage 3G or more transfer /must display ads in most page

In fact ,i prefer plan A.

any bonus to awnser this question?

10 mb of space?!!!! Your crazy! That would be the worst host ever...!!!:angry2:

13351
April 15th, 2004, 15:47
Sure, Google adwords, but I would rather add it myself than being forced to in the header.

Or you can offer one-time fee (or monthly) to opt-out the ads.

splinter
April 15th, 2004, 15:49
I really don't care about ads as long it is not a pop-up it is fine with me.:chinese2:

Aznsmartguy
April 15th, 2004, 21:13
I think the google ads are pretty fair since you are giving a lot with these free hosting plans. I'd gladly put a 88x31 on my site. Btw, great hosting so far :applaudin

pantherhost
April 16th, 2004, 07:36
Thank you for your ideas so far, keep them coming. We are now considering offering 13351's idea of also allowing a one time fee of say $5 to opt out of the adverts for all those who are really opposed.

For further information I can show you how a large banner would blend into a webpage.

https://www.google.com/adsense/images/petplace_lg.gif

As you can see it blends in nicely even for its size and it is not intrusive, it is also only displaying products specific to the site.

The smallest advert on offer is a 125x125 button, this could slot into anywhere in your sites.

All those who are still against the adverts do not fear, this will not be a sudden move and we are still at the drawing boards at the moment.

I've been toying around getting my site together on this host and so far I have nothing but praise for it. Excellent service all around. The one problem I did run into was promptly corrected as well as a quick response from the host.

This host offers everything you could need in its package and then some. A customizable advert is what they're considering and for the service I'm getting here, it's a very reasonable request.

There's been no downtime. Fast loads. Easy installation via Fantastico. Again, excellent host here. :God:

This has recently caused some downtime and unfortunately users may expect one or two more sessions of downtime, however we are pleased to say we have an uptime of 98% overall.

My apologies to those who have not received as quick a response as they would like, we are currently very busy working to address issues with our management system and sometimes it can take a while for us to respond.

Those of you who have been hit with large numbers of "Payment Requests" we apologise. The service is still free, it is a bug in our billing system. Please do not block that address as you may miss important information on the status of your account. We will work to resolve this problem.

Hi All,

Firstly I would like to introduce myself. - My name is Martyn Dewar, and I am one of the Customer Support people at Panther Hosting :-)

If you contact us about the free hosting package, theres actually a good chance that you'll be speaking to me (via email of course) at some point, since one of my roles is to deal with the provisioning of these accounts. :cool2:

Secondly, I would like to apologise to anyone who has emailed us recently and not had a response. Theres currently a backlog of free hosting requests which are awaiting processing (due to the nature of these accounts, we prefer to process them manually, rather than via an automated process). One of the main reasons for the backlog is the fact that we are currently in the process of doing a Corporate rebrand (which among other things includes a brand new website - see here (http://www.pantherhosting.co.uk/panther_new_ie_big.jpg) for a preview) , which is taking a bit longer than originally expected (it will be completed soon however).

Thirdly, our services are still available, and they are still being provisioned with the same bandwidth / disc space etc (see here (http://www.pantherhosting.co.uk/freehosting.htm) for more info specs wise). In order to speed up the signup process though, I would advise sending your signup email to new.accounts@pantherhosting.co.uk since this will allow us to process Free Hosting requests quicker (keeping them away from our other business mail).

If you have any questions about our services, please feel free to drop either myself (panther-martyn) or Alan (pantherhost - our company president) a PM on this site, or email new.accounts@pantherhosting.co.uk and someone will endeavor to answer any queries that you may have. If you are an existing customer, you can use the "Helpdesk" in our Control Panel (http://www.pantherhosting.co.uk/pantherpanel) or alternatively email support.helpdesk@pantherhosting.co.uk (which in turn raises a helpdesk ticket). If emailing, it is advisable to send the message from the email address that is associated with your account (see the "My Info" section of the control panel).

Thanks for your interest! :biggrin2:

With regards,

panther-martyn
October 13th, 2004, 12:45
Hi All,

Please be advised that account requests must now be emailed to new.accounts@pantherhosting.co.uk , as these are now being handled via a seperate ticketing system, to ensure that all inquiries are dealt with within a prompt timescale.

If you require further information, please do not hesitate to send either myself (panther-martyn), or Alan (pantherhost) a message.

Thanks.

Recently there has been a major outage due to a hardware failure that has caused loss of data.

More information regarding the incident is available at the link below.

http://kermit.demonuk.org/~demon/panther-out/

You can now also view it at www.pantherhosting.co.uk

If you need to contact us urgently, please email panther.hosting@gmail.com

::UPDATE::
We are working on measures to make an incident like this much less damaging in future. These include alternative means of communication such as a Google groups mailing list and regular backups of the Panther Hosting site so as to provide stable records of clients and a quick way to get at least some of the network back online after an outage.

There is also a possible regular backups plan in the pipeline, but like many hosts we still recommend that as a user you do a backup of all your data at least once a month, more if possible.

This is as said an unfortunate incident, up until now the servers had very high uptime and this failure was not expected. Panther Hosting apologises deeply for any incovenience this may have caused.

pantherhost
December 14th, 2004, 02:44
Due to the recent outage we can no longer accept new applications, our current priorities are recovering and setting up clients from before the outage, getting the administration system and website back online and setting up preventative measures so as to stop anything like this hitting us again.

If you are considering emailing an application please wait until I respond here saying that we are re-opened.

Thank you all for your patience at this difficult time.

We have recently been experiencing problems with our email piping system due to the large quantity of spam we have been receiving. We are working on making the system more effective but some emails may have been lost due to the quantity of the junk mail.

Hiya, I re-emailed my information a few days ago for you to set back up - and I know you are busy, but could you please confirm that you got the email?

Thanks :cool2:

Yes we have received your email and are working to get the administration software operational as soon as possible so that we can start adding clients again. Please accept our sincere apologies regarding the waiting times for accounts being re-setup.

Don't worry about it, when something like that happens it's bound to take time to set back up

Thank you for your support regarding this matter, what with us entering the Christmas Season and problems with the cpanel email system we are finding it hard to get the servers properly back up online and able to accept accounts again.

However we are pleased to announce that once the servers are back and operational we will be putting in place a new site and generally streamlining our services across the board to make it easier to contact us and easier to navigate our site content.

Again, please accept our apologies. Hopefully this can serve as a lesson for us and we can avoid such an incident happening again.
