Is there ANY way to add/delete stuff from these things?! I have to do the whole thing over (and chuck out a CD...) whenever I have one track to add...ergh.

Yeah you can add to a CD is you don't finalize it. Also there are programs out there that will just overwrite bad data, and delete it from the cd. Make it look like it isn't on the CD (but then again it lowers the overall storage capacity of the CD)

The point?
1) Permanent data backup
2) Faster read/write times
3) Compatibility with older CDROM drives
4) Cheaper to produce
:classic2:
They have their uses. For instance, why use a CD-RW to burn a copy of Slackware, when it's so much cheaper and faster to do it on a CD-R? :classic2:

Then buy Rewritable CDs.

You can add to but can't delete from it. Unless you finalized it.

Its not the money, its just annoying and inconvienient.

I dont know how to NOT finalize things :S I use Prassi Primo DVD since it came with the computer and it seemed to be fine...I think it finalizes stuff automatically...

CD-RW discs do not get burned as hard as CD-R discs. THat's why most of the time a CD-R will work in your car stereo, but a CD-RW doesn't.

I use CD-Rs... who cares?

i never use CD-RW's..

why?

because i have my portable hdd / mp3 player..

just get a USB key if it annoys you that much..

and its simply not how the technology works... its somewhat hard to change the way the little holes dug into the cd face and reflect light...

Maybe I should do a new thread for this...but:

I got a CD-RW, copied the songs onto is sucessfully but now it wont play on my CD player ... X.x; When I press play the screen says just says DISC (meaning it doesnt read a disk in there...)

Do I need to finalize it like you said? If so, how!? Heres what it says about the disc on PrimoDVD Starter

Type: DVD-ROM/CD-RW
BUR Protection, CDText read/write

Audio Closed (CD A1), Erasable, 18 Track(s)

...well thats all that seemed importantish.

Maybe your CD player doesn't support CD-RWs?

As Bruce suggested, your CD player probably doesn't support the CD-RW format, I have 2 stereos & neither play CD-RWs, though CD-Rs work fine!!

Yeah, AFAIK the standard format for CDs are CD-Rs. Gain some, lose some.

CD-rewritable would have been more useful if they are cheaper. Before the price goes down, Non-rewritables will rule.
