I understand you must be busy with all these unlimited hosts you open all the time. What do you expect us to rate? A service we just heard of or a web page under construction?

Excuse me for asking, but why would you need to know your members'
1. Street address, city, state, zip, country - whatcha gonna do, send them free catalogs?
2. Telephone number, ICQ number - for what, tech support?!
3. Gender - who cares if the guy's a male or female?
4. Marital status - does it matter if they're married or divorced or single?
5. Highest level of education completed - okay, so what can do you do if you knew the guy only completed elementary school?
6. Household income - I really want to know why you're interested in how much money the guy's family gets annualy.
7. Occupation - so you're going to refuse to host if the guy's a police or a surgeon?
8. DOB - heh, the guy will be expecting presents.
9. Age - ?

So my question is: what are you planning to do with all those information? Besides, you probably already know that 99% of the people won't be truthful, so if you're doing a survey or whatever they say they do with the info (they call it graphical information???), you're not getting the real results.

And yes, I know those aren't required fields, but since they aren't, then why bother asking?

I think having all that info makes it harder for abusers to make thousands of accounts and swamp the system

they probably dont expect real info but if they get pissed off at you for some reason they could use false info as one of there excuses for banning you

Plus they probably forgot to change the script along with the "url.com/username" portion with it, LOL...so sad.

I assumed that if this was a privatly owned host (small buisness) they wouldn't need any specific reason for banning. :) I can understand the reason for requiring address type information, but household income, DOB, education level, is fairly irrelavant in my opinion.

neoteens.org and mifix.net are hosted on the same box..

laurie
May 22nd, 2001, 15:53
For neoteens you don't need to fill in occupation etc..

Just username/password, email and name.

lex isn't very sharp, or funny.

acetg
May 22nd, 2001, 16:38
He sure isnt keith. The only fields that are required are Name, Email, and username. Also, Even if all those other fields were required, I think I am smart enough to know that 99% of the internet community wouldnt enter factual information. In fact, I hope most people would be smarter than that anyways. No server is 100% Secure I dont care what! And hackers are always out there. I do what I can to secure Neoteens AND mifix and that is all i can do. So Lex, Before you go blabbing, "Why do you need all this & why do i "have" to fill it out", you should probally CHECk it out first.

Correct me if I am wrong. But isn't that exactly what he's doing? He's asking you before he comes to some conclusion and spreads word about it. I don't know maybe it's just the way I interpret things.

And that webmaster is using a cracked version of HomeFree.

IF you login here:
http://www.neoteens.org/cgi-bin/admin.cgi

Just enter without typing login and password, it shows:

Maybe so, they shouldn't do that! And they should put a case on that machine!

Anyway for anyone who is interested here is a basic speed test I have put on neoteens and on geocities. (I used the test on toast.net - hence that's why the results go to that page, but it does test the host it loads the image off initially. Toast.net just draws the graph.

http://www.neoteens.org/webguyuk/test.htm

and compare that to geocities http://www.geocities.com/webguy_uk/test.htm

Post your results here. I got:
Neoteens: 92k
Geocities: 233k

Its NOT a cracked version. Its highly modified though for security purposes. I downloaded a security mod from somewhere..I cant remember. And also, WHY where you tring to login as admin in the first place? Sounds to me like you are just tring to cause problems.

laurie
May 23rd, 2001, 15:36
We can't host on a host which takes 20 minutes to load a 225k image though!

hehe..

How much is it to buy anyway?

acetg
May 23rd, 2001, 15:56
I don't really care if you believe me or not. I know its not cracked or hacked or anything so I dont have to worry. I am selling the domain though..for whatever someone wants to give me for it. I already listed it on some Domain auction websites. The mods came from a site called "Close Connections". There is a CGI MODS section and there are mods for like everything. However, I cant find the URL..Ill keep looking

laurie
May 23rd, 2001, 16:03
Cutting down to just mifix.net I hear.

It's only about 250 to buy the license

laurie

It's frightfully slow today - was much better yesterday.

We've got some new toys to play about with in this forum now

zazoo
May 23rd, 2001, 21:59
I think its $300 U.S

Im from canada so it ends up being like $450 for me

oh ya and I AM going to buy it and it reeeeaaally bugs me when others just download it

so if it is a mod thats doing that then its fine, but if its pirated.... I dont even know

oh ya and one more question... why would a mod change that?

zazoo
May 23rd, 2001, 22:01
Nice job guys it sure is a fast server

Loaded 225,455 bytes in 425.01 seconds

boo ya

acetg
May 23rd, 2001, 22:04
The ISP has gone wack. And its a security mod. I dont know why it changed that..When i find the URL to the website i will post it here..its called Close Connections. It changes a lot in the control panel too.

programmer2k
May 24th, 2001, 02:08
um

There is no such security mod script

And besides
if it is only a "security mod" that you've added
why doesn't it have the full features that the latest version of homefree has to have?

Seriously though
no point of lying

May 24th, 2001, 21:39
ok ok ok..

if it honestly is a "MOD" as you claimb why dont you just post the mod here? so we can all see it and you can prove your right

I don't think it sould be much more then 100k

but im going to take a wild geuss and say you misterously deleted it by accident.
