View Full Version : Just checking my options..

I plan on getting a "media" host soon. And i thought of powweb because they offer "5" Gbs per day. And well thats around 150 Gbs Bandwidth for under $8 a month..
Now i know i can get a cheaper price, because i am not looking for a free domain name, and all that extra php/cgi/mysql crap. Just media storage and plenty of bandwidth to share my files.
I concidered getting 3 accounts of powweb.. which is still under $24 a month, and that would mean i could use 15 Gbs of bandwidth daily..
Now all that said and done, i am checking if theres other web hosts here that can offer me a "Good" Value for about $15. And if i like your service i will probably buy more later on.
For now, i am looking for the following:
6 Gbs Space
350+ Gbs of Bandwidth.. Around 400-500 would be perfect for now.. Reminder this is for $15, and ofcourse i'm willing to negotiate with the host for a "fair" deal for the $15.
Most important to me is the following:
Uptime. -I hate having to deal with cheap hosts and crappy servers
Anti Link - My Media is what you call "Wanted" in my type of community. And alot of childish and dumb webmasters would love to leech it.
What type of media do i host?
I Host unlicensed anime episodes. It is completely legal to distribute anime videos if they are not licensed.
I am currently using two different media accounts. I am paying this much for my 1st account:
7 Gbs disk space
300 Gbs BW
$15 (a month duh)
-----
Now this is just to check my options. I am not ordering a new account for a few days or maybe weeks. This is just to show me which host options and offers i have when its time for me to order a new media account. Meaning i will deffinitely read the offers and deals etc. And when i decide to order it, my decision will be made from deals and offers offered to me from this topic. ^_^
Note: If you say "Unlimited" i will shove my foot up your @$$. Don't offer things you can't provide. (Stupid fake speeddrives.com) ^_^

You don't want to deal with "cheap hosts" yet you expect to get 350+ GB's of datatransfer for $15 a month?

Hey why are you spamming? I didn't ask for opinions you know. I asked for offers. :P
http://www.speeddrives.com
I can get 2 accounts there for 300 Gbs and 8 gbs Disk space, and just pay $20. Or order the "Unlimited". But that unlimited thing has kept me off from signing up with them. Cause unlimited is a bunch of BS.
Now to other hosts, like i said, i'm willing to negotiate a "fair price".

Bandwidth Usage: PowWeb offers 5 GB of data transfer per day. Sites that use over 5 GB per day will automatically be disabled.
Excessive Resource User Policy: Resources are defined as bandwidth and/or processor utilization. A website is considered to be using "Excessive amounts of resources" when it monopolizes the resources available by using 10% or more of system resources for longer than 60 seconds. There are numerous activities that could cause such problems; these include: CGI scripts, PHP, FTP, HTTP, etc. This policy is only implemented in extreme circumstances and is intended to prevent the misuse of our servers. We reserve the rights to suspend or terminate any hosting account that we feel is jeopardizing our network.
Straight from there TOS. Be careful of hosts like this because they will pull you as soon as you start "overusing", trust me.

Unless they are overselling, you can never get that for that price. A fair deal won't go for $15, more like $60.

If you know unlimited isn't true, 300GB for $15 is just the same. :S

pyxishost, where can i sign up! :P
grand, i doubt you'll even get 2gb with 300gb bandwidth for $15..the only way you might be able to get 6gb/300+gb bw is if you had a lot of visitors and would show ads or something for the extra revenue. But i doubt it will happen.

Yet some how i got that from my current media host. I think i'll just buy a upgrade from him, since he said i could get 15 Gbs/500 Gbs bw for $50 a month.
The problem with the hosts here is that they buy servers for $100-120 a month with about 40-80 Gbs Space and about 1 Terabyte of bandwidth. And they want 3-10 times more the profit from hosting. Greedy. ^_^
Rackshack.net also has 1000Gb servers for under $120 a month. As soon as i save enough money i'll just rent my own terabyte server.. maybe in 3-5 months.
So i'll keep my current 3 accounts that are giving me 620 Gbs right now (still under what hosts here want). And rent a rackshack server later on. ^_^

Why even have a "monthly fee?" Your monthly fee seems to be built into the setup fee if it must be paid every two years.
$5999 / 24 months = ~$250/month + $5/month fee. This essentially works out to be a two-year contract where you pay $255/month.
Pyxishost
April 17th, 2004, 20:59
It is a bi-annual contract and every 6 months that contract must be renewed so that is a setup fee

Ok, I'm an idiot. :S
So it's $1005 a month then. I still don't understand why you have the additional $5 monthly fee though.

The $5 is the monthly hosting fee
the $5999 is the setup fees

I have not logged in here for some time, as well the offers here are ridiculous however I was compelled to answer this person as obviously he/she has no idea about running a business.
Do you think we pay $120 per server and that every client is pure profit? I wish!
An Office
Software (Some are close to $2000 each)
Technical support (I wish they worked for free make my life easier)
And other expenses, electricity, phones water etc. Nope they are free too! Let me know where you get these for free and I will gladly move there and offer what you want!
For your information we pay $500USD+ per server for our servers.

LOL and you think i have to pay for your bills? Why pay someone $60 for 300 Gbs and 6 gbs space, when i can get 800 Gbs and 14 Gbs space for the same price?
Spare me your comments. I'll get my self a nice little rackshack server, pay only $120 a month, and get all the goodies that come with the service.
Hmm maybe some day i'll rent a $100 server and sell hosting accounts at $50 each, when in truly they costs less than $10 in the market. lol... ^_^
Enough -----ing. I got 3 Offers by email ever since i posted this topic. Two i actually like. Maybe you're doing something wrong since you need to charge so much. :p
Yep problem solved, got the offers i was asking for. :S

Did I ask you to pay our bills?
Heres a question or two, is this "host" even a registered business? Do they pay tax? Do they have an office? We must be doing something right if we have been in business for three years now.
We don't need to offer the world for penny's. People know the true value of hosting and offering something like what your after is not possible without something lacking, lets see support etc. With that sort of pricing they will need to oversell the services greatly just to make a small profit, then the fees for software electricity etc etc. Price is not the only factor and I guess you don't understand this. Maybe when you wisen up you will get the concept around it.
I will be most happy when you rent a server, with your limited knowledge on hosting and the economics of business you should do well in the hosting business.

lol save it. You're just ripping off people who don't bother to find good hosting prices. Now stop spamming my topic. Mod or Admin you may lock or delete this. As it serves no purpose, other than seeing a greedy host trying to defend his wallet. Hell even host ultra looks better than this "solid internet" lol.. $30 for 10 gbs of bw and 500 mbs of space lmao.. ouch
I've had the same site host for over two years now, and i get ALOT more than that for my $15. Hell i even get alot more than your "Standard Hosting" which is lol $60.. And yeah this is for virtual hosting. I even get more than your special 2.5 Gbs and 75 gbs bw.. still not very good. ($5 more i get more than double lol)
And guess what, you dont know what you're talking about MN. Because i've had a max of about 4 hours of down time in my 2 1/2 years of using my current host. And when ever i need help, his there to help me out. And its not even technical server issues, just the script noobie i am who always bugs my host (whos an expert at scripts) for help.
Let's face it, you're just in to the $$$ too much. Because ALOT of hosts including my own offer far better prices and plans for what you have on your site. So save your all mighty talk for a moron who doesn't bother to actually search for good prices and hosts. And just buys anything they find. ^_^
Now you got nothing to say. You brought it upon your self.

i dont know what the hell you're on about grand, i looked at roberts website and their hosting plans ARE cheap! most hosts these days, and most of the hosts around FWS, are more concerned with quality rather then profit. you're saying we should all get $100 servers and sell plans for 10 bux each - that's giving ---- service. That's why hosts go spending hundreds of dollars on reliable resellers to provice a quality service. It's the people who go for the cheap servers that put their wallet before their service.

one word grand: pathetic
How can you seriously sit there and critisize someone who is dedicated to what they're doing, is dedicated to their job and supporting their clients - and all this is to YOU is money. They're not the greedy ones, trying to pay their tax and bills. It's people who just look at the price tag, then jump on board. It's those type of people degrading and destroying the industry as we know it.
Welcome to the real world. People need to survive, and to do that, they need money. Once you actually know how the world works, please, by all means come back here and repeat that all again. Until then...

I Host unlicensed anime episodes. It is completely legal to distribute anime videos if they are not licensed.Just for the record: it's not completely legal at all, it's just not a criminal offense. You're still in breach of copyright laws and liable to be sued if at any point the copyright holder feels the need to do so.
The fact that your current host would let you host that kind of material says more then enough about its business practices.

Let's just close this before Mr Knowitall comes back to say how right he is and how all the sensible people are wrong. :p
Good luck with your hosting Grand, come back when you have realistic ideals.
