the new iTV standard thats coming out will merge TV and internet. I just have a question, does this mean anyone can have their own TV network in a way?

Not likely. The overheads are simply too high.

I think we've learned first-hand, that even in the low-budget world of web publishing, only the fittest survive. There may be a few hobby networks, much like the public broadcasting and ham radio systems that exist today, but these will be overwhelmed by the media juggernaughts.

The fact that the film/TV industry is moving towards a digital standard (both in terms of production and distribution), does lower the barriers of entry somewhat, but it still takes skill, experience and a large chunk of money to produce and market quality visual entertainment.
