The newest version of the vBulletin forum has just been installed. Some of the features will only be tested and might be removed if we see that it gets abused.

From what I've seen so far, this one looks much better than the old one and has some very nice extra features.

If you wish to test some of the new features, please do it on the Test forum.

PEO

can you put a forum jump on every page esp. the run out of threads in forum page would be very nice - easy ;)

also can default email notification for replies be off like it was before

:D :D

Gees, there sure are a lot of new features!! Everything looks really good. My only complaint is the color scheme - I just don't care for the purple. I always liked the blue on white a bit better...

When I got to this site this morning, for a moment there I thought I was redirected to the vBulletin website: their site looks exactly like this with the huge vBulletin logo on top. My 2 cents worth: might be nicer to replace that gigantic vBulletin logo on top of the page with freewebspace.net's own logo or text.

Looks like he replaced the logo. This board is sweet!

For a second I thought I landed on some other forum by mistake! :D
This forum is definetly better than the previous one, the color scheme will take some time getting used to , personally i prefer blue.

I have to agree with WorldWarGeneral and Coolin. The colors were better on the old one. Was easier to read.

Ahem. It's a slow compared with the old one and the pages load ugly. Flicker, the color comes rolling in section by section. Those big icon thingies don't look good. Feels like I'm on a pokemon site. :D

I likes the old one better. But it has some nice features, wayyy better then phpBB now!
It took me some time to find the edit button (for those who didn't found it yet, it's on the right of the post).
Just testing:

<?php echo "This is a test" ?>

It something about the old board but I think it was better. I guess it's just because Im use to it ;)

Ohwell, the colors where easier to read in the other forum but I guess I have to get use to it!

Peo
May 24th, 2001, 07:34
When I upgraded it used vbulletin default buttons and colours since there are some new buttons and the design is different.

But I will test a more blue design, similar to the old one later today. Purple doesn't fit with the rest of the FreeWebspace.net site.

Dammit!! This new board had me all confused... I changed my email address in the middle of replying a message, then when I tried to post, it said I don't have permission to! Took me 5 minutes to figure out what happened.... Now I lost everything I typed before... :(

Anyways...

I don't have any problems with the new color scheme... some people may not like it because they're used to the old colors.

I don't really like the message length feature. Disable it, Peo!

All in all, dis is pretty cool~~!
Oh, and why doesn't the font feature work, Peo?

lucifer

It's getting nicer

kill that horrible coloured scrollbar please

meow
May 24th, 2001, 11:59
A agree with Lucifer. Yep. A lot nicer. I like how it looks now. :)
Colored scrollbars? Thank heavens I don't have latest IE!

The text formatting options can probably be useful, but I think you have to watch it Peo, so people don't start to write all posts in size 7, bold, pink.

Have you noticed that the preview and submit buttons have switched place? I hit the wrong one all the time. ;)

Heh.... I liked the new colours better myself... Darker colour schemes are easier on the eyes.

I don't think there are any yet. If you have a certain number of posts you can upload your own. 191 - tsss - don't think you are cool enough. :D

Too many features its confusing! The similies are easier now.

This looks like the goingplatinum forum. Do you guys copied it from there?

No, the look is nearly 100% vBulletin 2 default design: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/

LeX
May 25th, 2001, 07:35
Is it possible to get rid of the sub-forum link at the top of every page? Like how it used to be. Sometimes I click too fast and hit the wrong link - and it seems strange to see "FreeWebspace.net Community > General > General > New forum! Vbulletin 2.0 now installed"

lucifer
May 25th, 2001, 08:11
LeX is right about > general > general

also (minor point)

can 'review my site' and ' =HTML web design' be the swaped on the jump menu so they are the same as the forum order :)

I've fixed that now.

The limit to have your own custom Avatar has been changed to 200 posts now. And new posts in the Test Forum does not count anymore... sorry.

How about:

FreeWebspace.net Community > Off-Topic > General >

or

FreeWebspace.net Community > Other > General >

Great... so now I'll have to post pad in all the other forums in order to get there. ;)

Shouldn't there be some sort of exception for those of us who have been around a couple of months but simply don't bombard the forums with 30 repetitive posts every day? (Not that I'm accusing anyone here of doing that. :p )

I think about 5-600 posts is the best. Wouldn't want to be in that lame above 1000 group. Or what do you say Gyrbo? :D

- just me being helpful - :p

Coolin

The colors are a bit better now. But I still have one suggestion. The buttons are much too large to fit into the overall feel of the forum. Perhaps the old forum buttons would work here also? Then we get the simplistic feel of the old forums with the new features of vBulletin 2.0.

LeX
May 26th, 2001, 02:20
Better lame than sorry...

I've noticed that the scrollbar is back to its original color. Good!

[ADD]
Finally! Unread threads are marked unread, and those that are read already are marked read! (sounds kinda confusing... :p)

[ADD]#2
And the "Edited by..." message is now small and italic and at the bottom where it doesn't get in the way of things. Nice...

yeah i have mixed emotions about this board. i think it is too complex. i like a simple board.

Since I mod. at a few forums, I'll mention that at first I really hated the new version, but you get used to it and there are some new features that are really good.

Split/Merge posts is very handy, and overall it is an improvement.

Peo did a great job in removing them

Zef Hemel

Simple solution: Use Opera, you won't see any coloured scrollbars anywhere :p

Mandrake
May 27th, 2001, 14:45
I liked them so much that I added them to my site... Makes it stand out... Look a little different from everyone else. :)

Coolin

In my humble opinion... They're annoying.

LeX
May 27th, 2001, 20:32
IMOO (in my Outstanding opinion) I like colored scrollbars - if they're colored wisely. Some people just don't know how to do that, and makes those scrollbars real ugly.
I used 'em on my page... the colors aren't great, but at least they match the theme color of my site.

Epgs
May 27th, 2001, 22:00
they either look good/ok or really bad

I agree. The old was was so much cleaner, now it's looking like a site that wants to fit a million bells and whistles in a single page. It isn't FWS' fault though, it's vBulletins. However, I think using the old icons on this new forum would return it (by a little) to it's nice, simple, layout.

As I see the threads pages have -expires => 'now'
So closing the browser you will be unable then to reread the posts via one.
The former version was more amicable in this.
