View Full Version : what do I REALLY need?

Hi all,
Mr. Noob here:-) I'm in the market for a host but not really sure how much bandwidth I would need. I figure 1GB-2GB of space is enough but not sure how much bandwidth would really be necessary.
I am in the process of writing a web page for a land developer (a relative) and I don't want to run short on bandwidth for future website upgrades as I learn how to do the more fancy stuff.
At present, we are planing for 7-8 pages with one page showing thumbnails of the houses he builds, and then clicking on the house your interested in, begins a slideshow of 10 or so images showing the interior of the house. This would be for about 12 different house designs so we are talking about 120+- images just for the houses, not including various "static" images on the other webpages and future Flash posibilities.
In the future we might include some video's as well.
I don't anticipate over 30-40 visitors per day and that may be overestimated.
He also wants 6-7 domains all pointing to the main domain. He wants to own these domains so I am thinking he should just register these seperatly instead of doing it through the host.
There are so many options out there that I'm getting a little confused. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

P.S. Is Globat.com a good host? The price seems good for what they offer.

Thanks,
RoD

Hi there, I think 1GB space and 10GB transfer should be enough for a start. And we at Wynhost can offer you that, for US$10.50/month.

For that, you get:
1GB space
10GB transfer
Support for PHP/MySQL/Perl/CGI etc

As long as the videos aren't illegal, we allow them here. Find out more about our reseller plans here: http://wynhost.com/reseller.php

We hope that you'll consider us! We have been in business in about a year and our support is excellent. There's a 7 day money back guarantee if unsastified.

Try us out!

Your needs are not too steep, and since your site is not popular yet - initially Bandwidth usage will be very low. The multiple domains pointing to one domain is called domain pointer or parking and most hosts offer that as an unmetered feature.

Since you only asked for a suggestion and not a quote, so won't quote here. No, Globat.com is not all that good - but its slightly better than Gisol, quite better than Powweb and almost same as iPowerweb. But all these providers fall in the troublesome category really.

Check ionwebservices.com for low cost hosting, pretty low cost and good support. Of course, we do a lot of things too, but won't plug own services until you ask for a quote.
