View Full Version : Woot! I got Gmail!

Taken from my blog:
EXCLUSIVE: Me has Gmail!
Today I logged in to Blogger to make some minor changes to the template, to make it CSS valid. All thanks to the post 'unlucky day' which I reposted with a diff time but same date, thanks to some new features.
To my surprise, I saw a little link sitting at the right side, asking me to beta test Gmail. Now don't go rushing creating Blogger accounts, it seems that only a selected few get them. My friend does not get the link!
I quickly made an account and got 1000MB of space, almost a gigabyte.
To my surprise, GMail looks very much like Yahoo Mail and emails can be deleted (although it tells you not to). I could empty the trash can.
It's very very nice for a BETA, with only a few things funny, like the starred section where the message is cut off and not wrapped. And never once did I spot an ad, which is something they should add soon.
I know you guys are dying for screenshots, and since there's no Non Disclosure Agreement included, I'll show them.

Very happy with it, have anyone else here tried it?

I have it. I'm slowly sending my "collection" to my Gmail account just to fill up space... :D
Actually, words don't get cut off in the Starred section for me. I'm using Firefox.
You get AdWord ads when you're reading your e-mails.

I heard GMail invitations can fetch up to US$40 and every GUser can send 2 invitations. Hmm gonna Ebay them.

I don't see what the big deal is.
Infact, I hate web based email accounts, I'm a pop3 person myself.

I think so. Invite is only enabled periodically.
Ashed
May 6th, 2004, 09:26
Not necessarily. I have been using it for a few days now and I still can't invite people.

Well hurray for everything
congratulations on...getting an e-mail account...that must feel really weird, as not many people get to have one of those.
also, congratulations on spamming your blog...we all cared about it.

First, I am pretty sure GMail has been offered to all Blogger users.
Second, I personally am sick of reading posts about your personal possesions.
I don't care about your grades, your post count, your hosting plan, your GMail account, or anything else you have aquired.
End of story.
kthxbi.

now ... trenzterra i don't think it's that decent to sell something which is supposed to be free in the first place. You got it for free, at least give the invitations to some of your friends if you don't want to donate them to others.

Jmiller, it is only offered to all active Blogger users, not everyone, as you said, has it.
And you could choose to ignore me or all my threads if you wish, I have a right to post, you have a right not to read.
I don't think anything is wrong posting about your joy.

Haha, every forum I go to there's always a small group of posters that think they're elite because of their beta gmail accounts, and then a large group of people that get pissed off and attack the gmail-ists.

Well I'm not gonna sell it, at least without a CC. Just some thoughts just now.
Pathetic, I don't think I'm elite, I'm just happy about it since I've always wanted to be part of it.
Jmiller, as long as you have x number of posts,I think you get it already, not how often you post. Depends on your definition of active.
I don't see how this thread can get so controversial suddenly...

I don't see how this thread can get so controversial suddenly...we've read seperate threads about your new laptop, your playstation two, your grades, your cell phone, your GMail account, your post count, your vacation, etc, etc, etc.
NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR POSESSIONS.
trenzterra
May 7th, 2004, 21:45
I don't have a PS/2, my 'new' laptop is already two, post count not for a long time, cell phone, did I? Vacation? Yes it's coming soon and it's not a posession.
IF YOU DON'T CARE, DON'T READ IT. AS SIMPLE AS THAT.

Then why can't I find any thread about my new phone or anything about those lines?

I don't share anything much in this forums anymore, like when I got a concussion recently, mainly because of such people who would complain 24/7 about the thread.
Congrats for spoiling my day.
kthxbye

trenz, if you're telling people to not read your threads if they don't care about them, you might as well stop posting, because I doubt many people here care about anyone's threads.

I think people should lay off little trenz. If he get's something and he's happy about it then I think he's got every right to tell people about it. If your annoyed with it, then don't read them -- maybe he'll stop if he notices no one wants to hear his babble :p
It'd be neat to have a GMail to fool around with. I'd have a new place for my spam.

No imap to gmail (although that would be awesome), but with my current provider I have imap.
GMail should come out with their own adware software to use your gmail account. Then I might move to it.
jmiller

IMAP/POP3 with GMail would be absolutely crazy.
It would allow for a whole other method for warez pups to transfer large pirated files to other individuals, automatically even with something such as a mailing list.

...or another outlet for spammers to go nuts on. with a gig of space all the returns from non-existant emails wouldn't be a worry. Those are never a worry. It's not like a spammer cares about the mail that reaches the account. It'll be long closed by the time any returns start arriving anyway.
Since someone brought it up. What's the maximum size gmail allows for attachments?
