How do you find out if a domain is locked?

What do you mean by "locked" - do you mean registered by someone else already? If that's what you want, then just go to any whois database and type in the domain. It'll tell you whether or not the domain is registered and who it's registered to. I prefer domainwhitepages (http://www.domainwhitepages.com) myself as a whois.

I think he means with "lock" that you can('t) transfer it.

Why would you do that? If you owned the domain, why would you need to "lock" it so it couldn't be transfered. Just don't transfer it. I suppose I just don't get it...:)

Domains registered thru the old DomainZero, for free, had a "Registrar Lock" placed on them by Enom, DZ's registrar. This prevented them from being moved to another registrar. Rumour has it, you can e-mail Network Commerce (DZ's owners) and they will unlock it for you, but I haven't tried it as of yet.
