Hello,
Is that a good light and how much would it cost me to operate it here in Montreal,Quebec. I know I did that in physics a few years ago but i forgot.
This light uses a new light technology called FluoreX - it not HPS or MH - it has the same light spectrum as a MH light. Has a Kelvin rating of 6500 and each bulb puts out over 8,000 Lumens (16,000 Lumens total for this light) based on a study conducted at Stanford University.
...putting out 1000 watts of the Blueish/White Full Spectrum Light so commonly found in Metal Halide bulbs but only draws 130 watts of electricity - which costs pennies a day to operate
Thanks

1000 watts?
Wasn't aware we had any professional marijuana growers on the boards.
haha, yeah 1000 watts is killer. Where can we pick these up? And a penny a day, not too shabby

Of course anybody growing marijuana would not be paying for power. When grow houses are set up an alternate line is often connected to the power coming into the meter in order to steal. This is quite dangerous to do considering the power is live.
True it an economics choice for these criminals but also the power companies monitor useage in order to spot growers and such.

koolguy, not everybody wants to produce 3 tons/season to justify getting a house and pluging illigal illicricity into it.
As for power usage, it is stated this lamp uses 130W of power, wich would be equal to a computer?

Assuming it is running 24/7 at a rate of 7 cents per kwh:
24 hours*30 days = 720 hours
130w*720h = 93600wh
93600wh/1000 = 93.6kwh
93.6kwh*0.7¢s; = $6.55

Not I.

Bruce, the kwh of 0.7 is for where? Maine or Quebec?

I don't know what electricity costs there. Just look at your electric bill and substitue the number.

0,0644 here in quebec according to hydro website.
I went to walmart and found a nice lil thing.
Rogent 500W Quartz Hallogen Floodlamp // 10,500 Lumens for 6.49$
Its a direct connect cable (2 cut cables and ground, no lil thing you put in power outlet)
Could I mess with it and attach a power thingy and plug into wall? or since its a 500W it requires to be directly connected to the house's electric current? I think if i take a few of those and connect them together I should get a nice ammount of Lumens, but, i'll end up with a 5000W lightning system that will drink electricity like hell...
Another option would be to get EnerSaver bulbs (those twisted white bulbs)
each for about 4 bucks, 23W each, 1600 Lumens each.
Or even fluorescant neons, the kind in aquariums or something, but they dont produce much light.
Anyone knows a good lightsource that has a high Lumens/Watt ratio?
So far:
Fluorex = 123 Lumens / Watt
500W Halogen = 21 Lumens / Watt
EnerSaver = 69 Lumens / Watt
Fluorex seems good, but its expensive (130$ usd + shipping + conversion to CDN$)
For the price of 1 Fluorex kit, I can get 34 EnerSaver bulbs wich would put out 38,400 (54k-16k) more Lumens then one Fluorex Kit, but it would comsume 652 more watts (782w-130w)
Oppinions? Comments?
