As this week, the highly contraversial television show Mariam hits Australian television shows - I ask you all, what do you have to say about this?
The show was meant to be your typical reality dating scenario.

It begins with six hunky guys being presented with a line-up of beautiful women. Told to pick the one they found most attractive, all of them selected the same girl ? a South American beauty called Miriam.

After making their selection, in the typical reality dating show fashion, the men compete furiously to win her affection.

Hang on a minute. Win her affection? Well, you see this brings us to the all important "twist" in the situation, that producers use so often to spice things up.

At the end of shooting the series, the men find out they were actually falling in love with a pre-operative male transsexual!

This all makes me think of the Jenny Jones incident where a homosexual man was murdered after revealing to the world that he had a crush on a certain individual.

I actually remember that episode. It was about 3 or 4 years ago wasn't it.

I forget specific details, but from what I remember it was an episode where "secret crushes" were revealed.
In this case an individual appeared, only to find out that his admirier was in fact a male co-worker. He later on killed the co-worker, and if I remember correctly the Jenny Jones show took very little responsiblity.

I heard there was a show like this in England called Theres Something About Marian (sp?) Sounds like the same show. I thought the guys were suing the network for this... ?

I think the Jenny Jones show is off the air in connection with that.

I think the Jenny Jones show is off the air in connection with that.I was thinking the same thing, however I was unsure so I figured best not to post it.
I would assume the reputation went downhill horribly after the incident occured and the show accepted little responsibility.

its a very interesting series, alot of things would be very funny specially all the reactions before and after. i'm wondering whether 'marim' is actually a transvate or just some male whos had a sex change, i don't actually know if they have mentioned that in the series. though i'd only watch the last episode just to see what the last guy's reaction would be when he founds out.

I believe that is the same show... the network settled out of court for an undisclosed amount (though rumoured about $170,000) in return for the network to broadcast it.

I've seen it advertised on Network Ten (I'm in Sydney).

8.30pm, Network Ten on the 18th was it?

http://www.ten.com.au/searchResults.aspx?sq=miriam# and the second result.

correction ;)

Miriam is a transgenered male, not intersexed, so Phyxisus was technically correct the first instance.

Well the premier has been, and gone. Did anyone catch it?

They advertisement for the men was something along the lines of:
"are you up for a sexual experience that could lead to anything"

I think you miss the point of 'reality' tv. It's not reality in the sense that it happens in real life, but the fact that these people are taken out of their day to day realities, and placed in a brand new one for the duration of the filming.

tv is never going too far imo, its people that don't know how to live without tv that complain, its as simple as turning it off, or not turning it on to begin with.

again, those men deserve the embarrasment, and any other people that go on these dating game shows... if they're so hot why are they still single.

hah, n00bs. xD

[edit]
the poor suckers on average joe are the exception, its not they're fault they're like it, its just that some people are like that.. although you'll never see ME on average joe! probably something around 'let's just be friends' joe :o

even cable seems to be crap these days, doing reruns of reality tv..

american idol is at least better than australian idol, better contestants, and the fact the judges are far more interesting..

back on topic, that's why the infranet was invented, so we could live on our assess with different mediums :D
