Yeep Sirreee! I went out and bought a new cell phone. Was getting tired of my nokia. My previous Motorola V60i was great. And prior to that my Nokia 8260 was the BEST! But lately I haven't been happy with the cheapie nokia I bought in anger after having to purchase 2 new v60i's at cost ($199) because they broke.

So I bought a Motorola V600! This is a GSM Phone. It's dual band (digital/gsm), AND it works overseas whoa!

Color screen, color camera, games, java, AIM, mmode (Internet) and mucho more!!

Yea I love flip phones. keeps the keys away from accidently being pressed (unless you have key lock) and keeps the main screen from scratches.

;) That's why after all these months I still have my plastic covering thing-er on my screen :D My previous 8250 was so scratched, when I went to trade-in for money, I got only half the price of what it was supposed to be!

By the way, how much did your phone cost Robert? :D

The phone has bluetooth, wap and all the goodies. $299 + tax. $321.00

and they gave me 1000 anytime minute, free wks, free nights, free long distance, free mobile to mobile, for $39/mo.

I had to switch from Digital to GSM so I had to get a new plan.

I was thinking about getting the v600 for Cingular. I have a "Service Plan" (best buy PSP) for my phone so I'd only have to pay the difference. My local Best Buy where I work charges $250 for this phone and I'd have $150 credit, so I'd get it for $100. The only question I have is about the reception. My current phone's reception is starting to get progressivley worse.

Robert

The phone is worth it. Give it a try. Don't you get 30 days to try it?

Conscript
May 13th, 2004, 14:20
Yeah, since i have the service plan and I know all the people who work there I can swap it out as much as I want, but I wouldnt wanna swap out my phone for something worse (I have the Samsung s307). By all indications though it seems worth it, so I think I will go for it.

you're the only one than. I use my phone to talk, but most importantly, to be able to access my email and to recieve messages via email to my phone. furthermore, I use my phone to be able to connect to the Internet via my laptop when I'm in the middle of the highway or in a location where I cannot access a computer.

Right now I have Nextel since my job leaves me in a basement part of the day and we have a Nextel antenna down there. The phone is decent, but much larger than most flip phones available from other wireless providers.

it's sad when a "serious financial situation" no longer means losing one's home but instead their cell phone. rediculous.

EDIT:
i'm sure that these companies don't enjoy having their images hotlinked.

Anyway, Nokia 3.2k.

the v600 makes me feel sorry for people who went out and bought the v300.
Well it depends on the provider. I'm w/ AT&T and they don't offer the v300. T-Mobile does.

How did that force you to downgrade? Didn't you already own it? Did you need to sell it for $$??

Rob, what did you mean by SG? Countries overseas in Europe, Asia and other places tend to be more advance in the cellular area when it to comes to the U.S.; they tend to have way better phones and services.

Jmiller:
I bought this a few months after i sold that Nokia. Till then i was using my cousin's phone. My network requires me to top-up every 5 months, so all that my phone can do is receive calls.

And for hotlinking, they should have disabled it.

Robert:
Yeah, i needed the money from that phone. Had to pay for hosting. :wink2:

Hmm yeah. GSM > CDMA

it just sucks that the GSM coverage over here isn't all that great.

Robert
May 14th, 2004, 13:34
Hmm yeah. GSM > CDMA
yea. I'm on GSM now. Using 4 different carrier towers. ATT, Cingular, T-mobile and Verizon. My digital reception was much better.

May 14th, 2004, 15:47
Thank goodness we only have GSM here.

May 15th, 2004, 08:28
CDMA got phased out here a few years ago. They're only 3 mobile operators here too - SingTel, M1 and Starhub.

We have a few carriers, besides the ones I listed. The problem is they all spent millions of dollars at the peak of the turn of the century to get cdma possible in every part of the U.S that now they don't wanna spend the cash to upgrade everyone to GSM.

trenzterra

Now the telcoms are forced to do 3G, yes forced, or else something will happen to them, a fine or something. And they have to meet a deadline - end of this year.

Robert
May 15th, 2004, 11:48
3G service is already available here. Verizon is a main player in the development of 3G. AT&T has their own "Edge" service. The only issue is the GSM isn't widely available, making 3G not worth it yet.

That's mine at the moment. Not really nice in terms of colour counts but enough for me already. :) (Siemens M55)
