I sent them an email about my expiring domain, and this is what they replied:

Thank you for your inquiry. Your domain name will be released after it
has expired. According to the Global Registry rules, (which we have no
control over) the name cannot be released for approximately 3 months
after expiry.

You are free to register it at that time. Unfortunately, we cannot
guarantee that you will get the domain name you request. At the time you
register, the name may be available, but there are many people
registering for domain names all over the world. By the time your
request reaches the master domain name database, your domain selection
may have been registered elsewhere.

Thank you for using the Namezero Service!

Best Regards,
The Namezero Team

So I guess they prolly won't hold your domain, and you'll be able to register it someplace else after 3 months of expiry!

Erm, what do they mean by 'release'?

As in they won't hold ownership over the domain? Or are they gonna sell it? And lastly, do we still have the rights to control our domain?

Released (in the above letter) is referring to the domain being available to regerister by anyone, anywhere (as if it was never registered before).

That'd be awesome if they let the expired domain accessable to anyone to register... only downside is if you dont get a chance to register it and someone else does...

'released' domains are often scaned for there's at least one site way you can look at just back on the market names

if it's a good one you'll easily loose it :( :(

Well that isn't entirely bad. I thought they were going to keep it forever at this rate...what with the extensions and the domain still up...but now it has their ads and crap. Anyway I doubt anyone would want my domain. But that's just hoping. If someone does, I'll just think of another name. ^_^ Besides I don't even know if my parents would allow me to register it, but again here's hoping.

My NameZero Plus domain expires in just 2 weeks and they have not renewed it yet (I upgraded to Plus in jan 2001). Emails to plussupoort@namezero results in an auto-acknowledgement from plussupport@networksolutions. (Interesting.). If NameZero does not pull thru can I pay NS directly to renew it (with NZ still registered as billing contact)?

reply from NameZero Plus Supprt:
"The Whois database is a bit behind. Your domain name expiration date is 2002-01-25." (1 year from upgrading my account).

It's 4 months behind????

Usually, if you're listed as the admin contact, you'll be able to transfer your domain to other registrars, because the confirmation email is sent to the email address of the admin contact.
