hi,

i got once more a question about DNS and what exactly happens when you switch DNS.
I had my site with namezero plus and now got ownership and can change it via networksolutions.
So I signed up for mydomain.com and did change the DNS to the once at mydomain.com.
at the moment my site is down:-( domain record shows already the new dns servers of mydomain, but it seems as still the once of namezero are used (idirections).

do i get a downtime everytime i change the DNS-servers?? as far as i know it takes 72hours until the change is made and nothing is cashed wrong anymore...
but if both dns are working (namezero and mydomain) my site should be still up???!
and i guess email is not be lost, but i would get it later, or?

now one more question to securtity:
would it be a good idea to use one dns of mydomain and one at zoneedit? (let's think mywebspace is allways up, to make it easy and i just use one webspace...)

i also thought i would like to use secondary.com, but i am afraid, it's only possible when you have your own DNS or can make changes to bind...
anybody uses secondary.com??
Don't think mydomain or zoneedit uses Transaction Signature.
So I would need to allow some access from DNS in order to use this method.
anybody knows more about that?

it asks me to do following:
kersche.net. IN NS ns1.secondary.com.
kersche.net. IN NS ns2.secondary.com.
Don't forget the trailing period (.) on the end of the name!

You will also need to update the delegation NS records for your domain.

Configuration for server 216.34.13.236
//
// Configuration sample for domain kersche.net
// for server 216.34.13.236
//
zone "kersche.net" {
type master;
file "kersche.net";
allow-transfer {
128.177.209.26;
128.177.209.154;
216.200.151.6;
};
};

If you've sucessfully transferred your namezero domain, could you please tell me how you did it. I have the plus account. I hate namezero. Any help would be appreciated.

As far as I know there isn't anyway to avoid the delay your talking about. It just takes time for the changes to propagate. Your site should be available from ip. At least I think it should.

Saw you already read the thread:
"Got ownership of my NAMEZERO domain! Finally!"
There is lot of info in it

And take a look into: "I've got the domain registered... but no space!"

Basically you need to have the name under your name for 60 days, then you can transfer out... But first you already can make changes:-)) (like DNS, ....)

And thanks for the info. Still not sure, if it's really a must that domain is not availiable, when changing DNS and both DNS are working fine...

I have just one more question. After 60 days, I plan to transfer to godaddy. Do you have to contact namezero and get them to unlock your account or anything. I'd like to just put the request through to godaddy and let them do all the work. I don't want to have an email discussion with namezero regarding why I've left their wonderful sevice, and how much they care for their customers.

Call me sneaky, but I'd like to do it without telling them as much as possible. Incidentally, if I transfer it, will they be alerted about this. I would assume they would. I don't want to leave them in the dark.

Sorry for dragging you offtopic

i guess all you need to do is contact godaddy. you need to fax them the transfer request with signature and copy of picture-id.

going to transfer to godaddy, too.
