I know this sounds irrelevant around here. But can anyone shed some light about the domain names and DNS thingie? Or is there any faqs on the net about it?
For example, how do you get a domain to work? Like if i registered a .com.kg domain: domainexample.com.kg.
I signed up with a free host that supports domain hosting which is free. Their DNS says something like: example1.company.com, example2.company.com and 2 corresponding IPs respectively.
So what happens next? How do we get domainexample.com.kg to work? Erm...hope someone understands me. :o

i --had-- the same problem....its not really that complicated...:)
I'm ging to use Mydomain.com for the example(s).
DNS stands for Domain Network Server (i think...)
you would register www.whatever.com.kg at domain.kg, and you sign up on mydomain.com
on domain.kg, when you get to the part where it asks for the nameservers you would put:
Primary name server
NAMESERVER: NS1.MYDOMAIN.COM | IP: 216.34.13.236
Secondary name servers
NAMESERVER: NS2.MYDOMAIN.COM | IP: 64.75.34.132
NAMESERVER: NS3.MYDOMAIN.COM | IP: 64.75.34.140
NAMESERVER: NS4.MYDOMAIN.COM | IP: 64.75.34.134
which are the name servers & IP's.
after you finish registering that..you would go back to mydomain.com and (login) add that website to your list and setup anything you want (title, meta "tags", etc.).
when you use MyDomain.com, you should set it up for domain fowarding and set up a website elsewhere (if you want it cheap & easy).
finally, you can email MyDomain.com and tell them to put your website in their servers. once that is done, you just wait until it is ready..like mine ----> www.fxz.com.kg (http://www.fxz.com.kg)
hope that helped....someone correct me if im wrong in/at any point :D

You asked:

In a nutshell, you have to do very little. You simply go to your registrar and modify the nameserver info (they might call it DNS), with the above example1.company.com, example2.... etc. Be sure you aren't *creating* nameservers for your domain, only modifying the DNS for the domain (don't worry about this too much, just that you might run across this and be slightly confused depending on the registrar).
Once you submit this modification, in about 24-48 hours, your domain will resolve (assuming you've set up the account at the host, and *they've set up the account).
That's it!

Sorry for being such a problemo. But erm, yes, i've got an account setup with a host. Hobbiton.org to be exact. If i'm not wrong, they've got a free domain hosting option? Provided that you own a domain. I'm using a .com.kg domain.
I modified the DNS of my .com.kg domain thru their domain.kg webpage; the modify settings thingie. So in other words, i just have to tell the admin over at hobbiton.org to erm, set things up for me?

Hobbiton.org doesn´t give you free domain hosting, it´s one of their extended services, and costs 35/50 $/y (the smaller amount if you have your own DNS-server (I guess Mydomain.com can be used for that). You might want to use another free host OR use Mydomain´s URL redirection....

Thanks for the all the help guys. Maybe i've read it wrongly...hehe. And from what i've found, granitecanyon offers the DNS hosting thingie? Or is it the forwarding? I guess i'll go back to the myspace.com redirection then.

Unless they've made granitecanyon more reliable and easier to understand lately, I think you are better off with either:
http://www.mydomain.com (for URL forwarding), or the sister URL http://www.mydns.com (for full DNS).

I agree. But if you wish to learn to understand DNS it is a nice excercise to have one domain with granitecanyon. Also don't forget http://zoneedit.com/ as an alternative.

Errr...will do...will do. :o
I'm trying to see if my .com.kg domain is up at NetFirms, as in accessibility. If not, i'll go over to cloak based methods then.
