In almost all of Singapore yesterday. It's nothing short of fun. Everyone's screaming etc. Happened at about 10.10pm in my area. But too bad we got back electricity quickly, at 10.30pm. It was such a nice sight, seeing all the lights turn on at the same time.

I was counting the number of smilies on my website, when everything went off. But thank god I got a laptop.

Grr, air conditioning is expensive, can't use it so much.

I can live without a fan, without electrical lights (there's something called the torch), but NOT my computer [and my ADSL modem, of course].

Air-conditioning is expensive? It's pretty cheap here, i use it everyday, i thought SG should be much more cheaper.

your little blackout last year was nothing compared to the people in BC who were having thier homes and lives destoryed by forest fires at the exact same time. Meanwhile, all you heard about were people in Eastern Canada and the U.S. complaining about not having any light for a couple of days.

That's because people in CA (Cali) were also having their hoems destroyed by forest fires and earthquakes.

The upper part of the U.S. (and Canada) need to have their power grid fixed.

While the power co down here in FL (FPL) is a monoply, we never have a problems with them. I'm happy.

Turn on 3 at once and you get what I mean. Utilities were S$500-$600 last month.

FPL is the entire State of Florida.. FPL = Florida Power and Lightening. If you are talking about Turkey Point, that's owned by the Government, not by FPL.

Just talking about Florida Electircity for a tic, in MGM Studios , walt disney world, they have these 2 rides. One Pulls u down a elevator shaft at minus 2 Gs, and one puts u 0 - 60mph/100kph in 2.3 secs. If they run both at the same time on the same grid, it would blow half of orlandos electicity.

Makes you wonder what would happen if there was a blackout when either one of them was running.

Do they have their own emergancy power generators or something?

Dean
July 1st, 2004, 08:31
They proubly have enough power to get to a E-exit [several during both rides]. But they do have generators that take a while to get up.

Dean
July 1st, 2004, 08:32
Oh yeh [edit button sucks]

If anything goes wrong during the ride, they turn the lights on, and u go down the Tower Of Terror, at a normal elevator pace. Woudl be soo cool

If you are talking about Turkey Point, that's owned by the Government, not by FPL.i thought fpl just covered the southern half of florida. eh. unless fpl has more than one plant in florida.. all i know of is turkey point.. :p but there's some other non-fpl plants in central, and some smaller university nuclear reactors, and i think some of those provide power.

Walt Disney World has their own generators that power the entire theme parks (Magic Kingdom, MGM, Epcot, Animal).

All schools in FL have their own generators.. and most homes now as well (Hurricane purposes).

Only two nuclear plants.. Turkey Point and one in St. Lucie.

Is there one near the airport? I remember seeing something that looked like one

Dean
July 1st, 2004, 16:18
As a precaution against any Millennium glitches, Walt Disney World has hidden portable lights and generators all over the property to insure light and essential power when the Millennium arrives. They have been placed behind potted plants so they will not be obtrusive to guests. 123456

Huh? Blackout means no school? Blackouts are frequent in my school, and when that happens, it's like being in hell.
Yesterday the sky was literally black, like Independence Day, and it's been raining so often, and school starts at 7.15am.

Dean
July 2nd, 2004, 03:19
You might of been able to see stars

trenzterra
July 2nd, 2004, 03:32
Surrounded by clouds, no stars.

Oh, and speaking of elevators, they were supposed to go to the nearest landing and exit, but somehow it just got stopped halfway.

And the poor people in one lift got stuck even 2 hours after the blackout, they came out at 1.35am, like 4 hours since they got stuck. Wonder how they breathed, and 7 adults were inside, almost full capacity.
