Okay well I keep getting this popup thing and it says:

Windows - Virtual Memory Minimum Too Low
Your system is low on virtual memory. Windows is increasing the size of your virtual memory paging file. During this process, memory requests for some applications may be denied. For more information, see Help.

I looked at Help and it said all this weird computer language stuff. Now I don't really know a lot about computers but I believe I know enough.

Is there anyone who can tell me what this means or how I can fix this problem? Would buying a specific hardware for the computer make this problem better?

Either you have too many programs running at once, or you just don't have enough memory in your computer.. Right click on My Computer, and click on properties.. Then look near the bottom of the window that pops up, and see what it says.. something like ### MB RAM How much is there?

In WinXP, right click My Computer, and select Properties. Go to the Advanced tab, and under Performance, click Settings. At there, click the Advanced tab. There, you will find one option at the bottom to change your virtual memory. Select Change and increase it.

it says 128 MB.. ugh, yeah I guess my computer's old. Well I'm changing and increasing the minimum and maximum thing. Um, so something that would also make my comptuer better is if I buy a better RAM thing right? Yes well thanks for the help you two.

1. Buy some more memory.

2. Run less programs at once.

Yea, better buy some memory, it will be much useful than using the pagefile.
RAM is quicklier (its electrical, doesn't need to be transformed to magnetical ;))

I wouldn't play around with virtual memory unless you know what you are doing..

Ask for RAM. Id ask for a 512mb stick of RAM.

Should be around $80-$100. Or maybe less.

Not as easy as that. Open up your PC and check the speed and latency of your RAM.

Latency should be indicated by a CL or something, and speed should be shown as PC 2100 DDR or something along those lines. Don't get anything faster or slower, just the same speed, or you'll be wasting $.

Basically what i think you should do is instead of reading all the articles and learning about it, you should fix the problem you have first. So take the case of your computer, and take out the memory stick. It should look something like this http://www.ucebilgisayar.com/oemresimyazi/OEM/RAM/512%20MB%20DDR%20RAM%20PC2700%20333MHz%20184%20Pin%20OEM.jpg

Go to your local computer store, Fry's, Best Buy, CompUSA. what ever is near your house. Show them the stick and tell them you need more memory of the same kind. Hopefully they know what they are doing and they will tell you exactly what you need.

Hi all. I came here as a result of a search and have the same problem. I don't believe there is a memory problem and my paging file is properly set. I am convinced there is either a virus or worm active in my computer. The problem showed up immediately after my browser was highjacked. I believe by coolwebsearch. It takes my browser to "about:blank" and then I get a popup telling me I am infected by adware. Clicking on it takes you to vendors selling adware and spyware removers. Pretty slick. Infect your computer and then sell you software to disinfect. I've tried a variety of virus scanners and spybots but the problem keeps returning and then eventually my computer grinds to a halt as something eats up memory. Has anyone else experienced any of this in conjunction with the virtual memory problem?

I get that too often. What you should do is use system resotre and go back a few days. Thats if you are running Windows XP. Systom restore solves all.

Think I may have solved my problem. Used Panda Activescan (free online antivirus scanner that also disinfects as it scans) and found 4 viruses that norton didn't pick up. Browser no longer gets highjacked.

So your 'variety' of scanners is just Norton?

I think she meant after norton didnt work she go another one.

I have got 256mb of ram and put a 6min 8 max page file on and have no problems since. With a 6 gb pagefile the worst thing to do would be tell the reg to clean it when it shuts down. It takes a while.

Even i had the same problem, for virtual memory running low, but i didnt know what was the cause, becasue after i edited the startup options using registry, the next restart i started getting this error for virtual memory!
I had a feeling that it was either becasue of some registry entry deleted or because of the adwares and spywares running in the background!

I get that too often. What you should do is use system resotre and go back a few days. Thats if you are running Windows XP. Systom restore solves all.
I did exactly the same and the problem was solved, but taht didnt solve the query as to why exactly the virtual memory error was there! because of what reson?

Anyways just wanted to ask you guys something?
When a lot of spywares and adwares and warez are running as background processes, then, does it become the cause of virtual memory error?

I also just started getting this message today. It occurs every time I try to log on to the internet. I have only had the computer for 1 month and I bought it brand new. The weird thing is I can log on to the computer under my husband's name and get to the internet that way. However, every time I try to log on to the computer using my user name I get this problem. I have 512 of memory. Any body have any ideas what to do?? :confused4

well, may be you have too many softwares on ur user account, or may be a lot of background processes are running!
check that out! and delete all those unwanted programs and applications!

That should solve the problem i guess!
if not get back here again! :-)

hi guys,
i m new 2 this discussion and i m from india.so let me tel out y the problem has occured 2 u.thats bcoz when u r running 2 many processes at a same time,RAM cant afford 2 run all the processes u r running and so it uses the space in hard disk and that space is reffered 2 as "Page File".so if that is low its shows a tag of "virtual memory minimum too low and so on....."so the 1st thing 2 do is buy a new advanced ram.thats a better idea.dont change the settings of the system.ask for 256 or 512mb ram ddr or sdr and the speed of it should b 400mHz.dont forget that.its very important.i suffered with the same one and i bought a new ram now and theres no problem of such.....ok then.if there r any other solutions 2 this problem pls let me know.
bye

Installing more RAM will always do wonders. If you think you have spyware/adware in your system I suggest running Ad-Aware and SpyBot both are the best out there plus there FREE.

Now for the Virtual Memery you should clear the cache to be sure nothing is hiding there you can do so by doing the following

right click my computer, properties, advanced tab, under performance click on settings, advanced, virtual memory click change, now click no paging file then click set you will be asked to re-boot do so.

Now follow the instructions as before to get back to virtual memory.
click system managed size then re-boot again.

This will come in handy as well:
1. Open Internet Options - under the General tab in the Temporary Intenet files section,
select the Settings button.

Select "Every visit to the page" and set the amount of disk space to use:
to no more than 100-1000MB. Now select the Connections tab and
select LAN Settings, make sure EVERYTHING there is unchecked and select OK.

2. In Internet Options - select the Privacy tab and choose Advanced,
check the box "Override automatic cookie handling" and
for First-party Cookies > Accept,
Third-party Cookies > Block and check "Always allow session cookies".
~ Now, NO MORE SPYWARE COOKIES

HI,

I own a toshiba satelite pro 5000

the ram on these is no longer for sale.

Has someone devised how to use say a 2 gig ram stick to increase the computor ram memory, by somehow adding it to virtual memory, or via software have the computor access the mem stick for ram?

Heh, there could be mooney in this because of all the dirty tricks designers play with ram.

Never do that cos u might not get windows to boot agin

open your calculator and put in your amount of ram and the times theat amount by either 2.5/3/3.5/4 don't go above 4 though

then put that amount in your min and max boxes

hopefully this will sort out your low virtual memory problem

PS see http://www.free-phpbb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15&mforum=comhelp the walk through is the same in any windows but this is done in windows 2000 pro.
