I know that you can use mydomain.com to redirect to another url, but I don't want that. That would just be like -------- with a whole lot more trouble. Are there any free GOOD domain hosts that you could use with a *.*.kg domain that have nameservers?

I don't know a lot about it, but you may want to try spites.com

Well of the domain hosts I've looked at, they only seem to support .com, .net, or .org, and then u still have to transfer the domain to the provider...which I'm not sure that u can do with a *.*.kg domain.

www.portland.co.uk claims to take all country domains. I put my .org.kg up there the other day. It doesn't show yet, but hopefully it will.
But Portland is NO FUN!

There are no particular DNS requirements for .kg domains. Any host can take them, but it is up to the host to allow foreign domains on its servers. Hypermart and Virtual Avenue don't, for example, though they could accommodate them if they wanted.

So far, I have .kg domains hosted at 50megs.com, netfirms.com, and wigloo.com. (50megs is part of freeservers, so they should be able to take them too.) In fact, I have a .kg hosted on my .kg hosting service with wigloo. :)

I'm trying to move off netfirms and the hypermart family to get away from their new pop-ups. :)

Sorry I don't understand what you mean. Are you looking for a virtual host? Why do you think that there are a "whole lot more trouble"?

I am interested in an alternative to mydomain too, but I didn't find any than zoneedit, which is not what you want probably.

What I meant was that I already use the -------- redirection...and to move and set up everything for nothing would be too much of a hassle...when the *.*.kg would be essentially the same thing if I used mydomain.com. Understand?

Whoops forgot to thank u birkitty. :) Are there any other reliable domain hosts? I don't want my page deleted in the middle of nowhere...or down a lot for that matter. I've heard that freeservers was bad for downtime or slowness or something like that.

Oh I was also reading at netfirms.com and they said that u can use banners instead of a popup window. It's probably similar to hypermart or virtualave. Too bad it's only 25megs...but I'll just put my galleries and downloads somewhere else and have the main index pages there. I'm going to have to do that anyway seeming as all the free domain hosts listed don't give much space. But are there any fast, reliable, ftp-able, no popups but banners, with more space? like 50-100megs? except for those listed already.

Yea, they say that. BUT, you get a free pop-up with it. It loads behind the page normally, so you don't notice it until you leave, but you get it. They're much better in reliability than they were a couple of years ago, when I moved my big domain off them because they were down so much, but the new pop-up turns me flat.

50megs.com will host you. They're not really so bad, if you don't need a bunch of features. Banners, but no pop-ups. I have a couple sites there - one of which gets moved to pay hosting when I move a sister site. (http://birman.com.kg) One will probably stay there... it's a mirror of another site anyway.

Hypermart and VirtualAve, in that order, are good reliable hosts. They won't take a .kg though. (They also recently started pop-ups.)

Megagiga.com will take you, if you also host free web sites. Not really a bad deal. They also lack some features I'd like, but they're very workable. (http://birkitty.com.kg and http://birkitty.net.kg are there.)

Those are the only freebies I've tried hosting .kg's with. I do have sites hosted elsewhere with domain redirections from mydomain.com. The big difference between doing that and -------- is you get the higher level domain and you get to keep your DNS (for things like mail, making your own subdomains, etc.)

.kg's are a whole lot easier to find hosting for than .ru's. :)

I tried freeservers.com and it works (for now at least).
I´m currently hosting jh.net.kg there.

Maybe I am thinking in other categories, mainly I don't want to have foreign ads on my site. Till now I didn't find a better solution than the cloaking service of mydomain.com. I understand, what you would like to have, but AFAIK there is no free service without ads.

.*.kg domain names can be hosted by just any web host,

Try netfirms.net
virtualave.com
freeservers.com

*.*.kg is as long as a -------- address. So it doesn't really matter that it's a higher level domain. I don't mind ads, as long as they aren't popups or HUGE banners. Anyway I'm thinking of actually registering my old namezero domain when it completely expires, if I'm lucky. I'm too afraid of what'll happen to the kg one after a year. Even after that though, I'd still be stuck. I can't afford paid hosting...well I could..but I have to save up for university, and my dad would forbid me to pay that much.

What kind of crap is 50megs.com?! I just tried to sign up and it says you only get 12mb and a 512k limit file size for a free account. Are there any other good suggestions, besides this or netfirms?

Will namezero release the domain name once it expires, any body has any idea of their intentions in this regards

Looks like they've changed. They keep spamming me about updates, and I guess new sign-ups get a pretty lousy deal from them any more... unless you want to pay, and there are paid sites as cheap if not cheaper that work faster and better.

I just put a domain on prevo.net for less than $15 for 3 months, which beats 50megs.com's lowest bannerless price, and it is much, much faster. (Not to mention the two other sites I stuck on the server and redirect to.) We'll see if I'm still singing their praises in 3 months. :) They are just one of a number that will host domains in the $5 a month range.
