View Full Version : When to sell out?

I've got this lovely little site just up and running (still in it's test phase)
Most of the users will be repeat customers (content is so sticky I'm going to patent it for putting up wall speakers)
My question is I want to put some ads on it when it starts getting going. I'd like to do text links but I'm flexible
how many page impressions/month do I need before it's worth the effort of doing such an evil thing.
I'm not so interested in mega bucks just something a little extra income
It's a community based thing so no specific target group

Currently the four different types of text-links brewing are the following:
Pay Per Click
You get paid for every visitor to the sponsor's website... Not very common but you could try the following...
Hamster (http://www.hamster.com/) (Average)
Casino Programs @ CJ (http://www.cj.com/) Pretty good although they will often abbandon you if your sign-up rate is low.
Commission Sales
You get paid a percentage of the product sold, this normally requires a target audience to be effective.
Commission Junction (CJ) (http://www.cj.com/) Reccomended
BeFree's Reporting.net (http://www.reporting.net/) Some mearchant's don't pay... be cautious.
Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/) One of the oldes programs online!
PPC Search Engine Trafic
Links to Pay-Per-Click search-engines (like GoTo, FindWhat, 7search, searchfeed ;)) pay on either a second-click (a result must be clicked) or a first click basis. Some can also be co-branded, as you probal know... ;)
1st Click
Advertising.com's AdSearches (http://www.adsearches.com/) 3-12c per click, I think textlinks are allowed.
Snooply (http://www.snooply.com/) 2c per click, bid minimum of 10c.
GoTo's Affiliate Program (http://www.goto.com/d/affiliate/p/befree/signup.jhtml) 2c per click, pre-fills allowed after aproval. (Similar to textlinks)
2nd Click
TargetWords (http://www.targetwords.com/) Between 1-8c per click.
TextLinks (http://www.textlinks.com) 6c per searh, bid minimum of 18c.
SevenSearch's Pay-per-text (http://paypertext.com/) Up to 63c per click.
Sprinks (http://affiliates.about.com/sprinks/index.htm?IAM=spkcomafflnk) I think text-links are allowed.
Co-brand
Most of these allow your own optimisiation weither TextLinks are allowed is specific to each.
FindIt-Quick (http://www.findit-quick.com/) Nice Hot Links option, co-branding and textlinks... 50%.
SearchFeed (http://www.searchfeed.com/) Build your own engine, then promote it... :)
Seven Search's Private Label (http://searchenginesupplier.com/) 50% per 2nd click basis. Can be put in frames.
GenieSearch Co-Brand (http://www.genieknows.com/cobrand.htm) You get a percentage of ad revenue from L90 then 2-6c per 2nd click.
Blind Links
If you don't mind selling your visitors out Blind Text Links can be handy... Although be careful you don't loose them completley! :)
AllClicks (http://www.allclicks.com/) 3c per click.
ClickHere2Surf (http://www.clickhere2surf.com/) 1c per click.
CasinoBlindLinks (http://www.casinoblindlinks.com/) 5c per second click. Be warned owner can act in an un-proffesional manner.
Hope that helps a bit! :)

Gee thanks supermoo that's a lot of typing :)
right that sorts out some options
but
how many page impressions/month do I need before it's worth the effort of doing such an evil thing.
What's more useful as a guide page impressions or unique visitors
what % of punters fall for this clicking stuff??
so this searchfeed is a little build yourself a 'search engine' that just happens to contain money paying links??
are the links any good? thinks this maybe a fine idea :D

i'd say about 3000 impressions monthly should generate at least something... That's what Burst! used to require, so i still think it's a pretty good starting place.

Well you see I've got an idea for a full PPC search-engine aswell, returning high-bidding click-through results etc. I've also got a few other partners lined up and I'm just looking for a programmer... that would most likley work for a free script, placement tricks and a search-engine layout done for them!
Hmmm... Where could I get one? ;)

I think all advertisers listed above will except all websites, or all US webmasters. That's mainly SI companies though.
As for the %, it's completley related to how targeted your website is and the text-links.
As for how much $$$ they pull in well, they're sort of in order for each section... it's best to check quite a few out and rotate them on your website. If you require payment soon it's best that you stay with the relliable ones, as quite a few scams are popping up.
Best of luck,
lucifer

I'll contact you via another method, I don't think using the puclic section of the board will be appropriate.

GenieSearch and SearchFeed are always lagged or dead. Anyone know when/if they will improve?

I can't speak for SearchGenie, but SearchFeed seems fast for me! Although 15% ain't much... :(

Lawrence from TargetWords here -- Just wanted to drop a quick note to say that our program pays a maximum of $.08 per search, not $.15 -- Sorry guys.
Our programs pays a guaranteed $.01 per 1st, unique (24 hrs) search.
There are also a few programs on CJ that pay $.01 to $.02 per 1st search. Ifunnel, askjeeves, mygeek, and some others.
Hope that helps.

Of course, these won't be around for a long time, given CJ's revised terms and conditions.
BTW, welcome to the forum, Lawrence. :)

Thanks Czar.
We'll probably start seeing many of CJ's CPC merchants joining programs like Fineclicks.

Welcome Lawrence,
I'm sorry about that error earlier, I seem to have got confused in your statistics area:
Total So Far
Qualified Searches: 3
Earnings
Self Earnings: $ 0.34
Although before I had 30c to 2 searches, maybe you should seperate statistics explaning how many searches have been completed and how many click-throughs have been recoreded.
Just a suggestion,
Lawrence

Supermoo,
No problem.
We'll work on improving our stats within the coming weeks.

That sounds great. I must admit that the lack of info presented in the stats are was one of the apprehensions I had about your program at first glance (though it is easy to make concessions for newish programs in this regard).
I eagerly await the rollout of the improved interface.
