I know there is a lot of these threads but most of them don't have what I'm looking for. I'm looking for a forum hosting site that have ftp access and can let you add mods and your own skin. Also have good support and will help you install a mod. Can anyone give me this or post a link that a free forum hosting have this?

I don't really want a website and I don't know any host that only allow a forum site only. I just want a forum.

a host doesn't care what you do. just install the forum into the root directory of your website.

Robert that's a bit detrimental - for a start we care, as a forum only site is a drain with no real addition to the company in their return for the hosting they get. Those that don't take an interest are possibly in the generalisation your making, but we always make a monthly vistit to 'all' sites we host and forum only sites are warned unless they have previously been approved for it.

So the 'trust me I know' comment should be taken back as it's a plain insult to hosts. :(

I'm sorry dude, if you're server can't host a forum only, then you need a more powerful server.

I've been in the hosting business since '99, and hosts don't care what you do with your paid account as long as it:

- Doesn't hinder server performance
- Go against their TOS/AUP

Unless your TOS/AUP specfically states "sites that are forum based only are not allowed" , who cares?

Move on.

That is a personal opinion and we do make exceptions, but no need to tar every host with the same brush. Same here on time scales, and chose the slower introduction so maybe it will last longer.
The servers can easily handle it but it will degrade other users acount performance as forum only can really hit - even on a high powered if you get landed with a busy one.

We have one that we sponser that is a great drain on server utilisation but we have cleared down the population on that server to suit due to this.

So it all comes down to management.

So the 2 points

- Doesn't hinder server performance
- Go against their TOS/AUP
Are the ones in question :)
