I do not think any of the free forum services allow you to install mods, they only have defaults that you can use. There's no such thing as a free lunch.

hmm... well i know that there are ones that offer free ftp access but that is limited... and they dont allow hacks.. but there are hacks that you can use that dont include ftp...

Think about this people; if you R-E-A-L-L-Y wanted your own forum, you would host it on your own server/space provider; and not these silly Remotely Hosted Forum Providers such as these. But the best Remotely Hosted Forum Provider I have to say is EXOCrew... they have a good support team, they HAVE a working file manager that allows you edit, upload, PHP Files AND upload: zip, jpg, etc.

Here's a few thing's i've taken from other Forum Hosters:

What makes ------------ different from other free forum hosts?
You have FULL control over your board. No options are disabled.

They say that, but it isn't actually true. ------------ contradicts that exact FAQ with this next FAQ:

Can I install modifications on my board?
No. Not at this time. Sorry.

But that's not all I have to say about them... ------------ uses somewhat of the same script as Clic!Dev Forum Hosting does; but clic!dev has way more features like managing your hacks and stuff.

ALso, they actually DO have a feature disabled that IPB normally has:

Are custom emoticons allowed?
No, not at this time. But we hope to add this feature soon.

But, enough said about Forumer... let's go onto other forum hosters that 'look' good.

>> Remotely Hosted Forum Providers [Part 1] <<

If you want to know who the ACTUAL best Forum Hoster is, it's obviously you! ANY Remotely Hosted Forum provider has a feature of some kind disabled. The most features on a forum hoster disabled is none-other than at InvisionFree. Since they don't allow you to do ALMOST ANYTHING. Especially custom emoticons, etc. InvisionFree is just a hyped up version of ProBoards that used IPB.

If you want FTP, I'd recommend BBFree's service. Although, they don't seem to be getting their File Manager up anytime soon... but just you WAIT! They might surprise you in the end. Otherwise, use EXOCrew.

Avoid ANY forum service that uses a modified version of a MAJOR forum software. (Major Forum Softwares are: YaBB, phpBB2, IPB, vBulletin (Paid), wBB, etc.) You might just find yourself at the short end of the stick after a while. I can give you a list on what Forum Hosters use what some other time.

That's about it for now.

just host a site at 5gigs (http://5gigs.com) and use their preinstalled invisonboard script

Also, avoid the kinds of sites like:

Ones that mislead you with: Domain Named, 5gigs, 20gigs, 00k, etc.

They're the worst usually, 5gigs gives you 80 MB on their free plan... so if you wanted to host a unbelievably huge forum... then you gotta choose something else. Otherwise, the server will boot you off since you're not building a website. ;)

... ... ...

I was talking about space; but no matter. If they could just indicate that 5gigs means bandwidth, they should put it in their domain name like so: "5gigsbw.com" or whatever.

you get unlimited space and bandwidth for your forum at http://www.invisionplus.net/ they have their own dedicated server and upgrade when they need to.

you can also talk with the owner if you need ftp. if you have a site with enough traffic and are willing to place some ads, you can get ftp for free. it has happened before :cool2:

Actually forumer also doesnt give you access to the "board wrappers" section of IPB so it limits how your board will look.

thank you intelliot, that truly supports my talking. I've never been able to get over 5 guests a day at my forums let alone members... So I won't bother with these guys.
