View Full Version : Win2k...I like it.

Just installed Windows 2000 Pro last night, and rid myself of 98 horrors(well, a lot more than 98 horrors, but a whole buch of problems with win 98). So far, it has been great! One thing I have noticed quite a bit was the speed of the internet. I have aDSL, and it would take about 5 or 6 seconds to load a page, and when it did load, half the images didn't show up, and I usually had to refresh because of some DNS error. Probably the same reason why I couldn't access Google. Well, now I can get to google.com, all the images show up, and it takes less than a second between pages. The only problem I have had so far is a program error with Outlook. Not bad.

So, I am glad that I bought(yeah...) win2k and installed it. It is a lot better than win 98.

This is what I've been trying to tell everyone with Windows problems!

I'm glad you saw the light! :)

Epgs

Well, isn't everyone a criminal? I know I am (see my first post, saying I "bought" win2k.)

If it's legal, why are you so afraid to tell where you got it from? If you got it from Microsoft, they won't put you in jail telling us that you got it from them. After all... It isn't a top secret OS.

He legally got it from warez distributers... *LOLOL* :D

I could be a beta tester too. Lots of beta testers release the software online. But I thought win2k would be better than Win XP.

Would you trust an OS that's been patched twice or a beta?

Only the next generation of AOL apps would run on AOL OS, like AOL-word. It'd be just like like MSword but you wouldn't be able to turn off the stupid cartoon character at the bottom of the screen.

Oh and when you pressed CTRL-ALT-DELETE you'd have a list of about 50 invisible programs running in the background, just to make things a little less stable.

While we're on this subject why dont we all take screenshots of our taskbar (http://www.allvit.org.kg/taskbar.jpg) , showing off how far our tray streches across it

Mine recently sized down a bit, after I uninstalled some useless programs.

I was walking around one day when I met a man who said... Do you want WarCraft II? I said... Yes! He said... here it is! I said... thanks! He said... no problem. So I went home and tried to open it. Stupid zip password protection! So I went around and saw another man who said... your face looks like you can't open a zip password. I said... how did you know? He said... uh. just have this. I said thanks. And yet, I still can't open the file. It just takes too long.

For some reason, my AZPR (cracked version :p) can't work with more than 5 characters... like, it stops scanning after it's done with all the possible 5 character combos. So, with one of my passwords which goes "http://www." in the beginning... it'll never reach that far.

Coolin
June 4th, 2001, 00:19
If the password is 20 letters long... The thing will take like a year to crack.

Just commenting on a few things...
This topic started out about liking win2k, to AOL OS, then programs running in the background, to how many things in your taskbar, to AZPR...and so on.

As for taskbar icons, I have NONE!!! As you see in this forums first post, I just installed win2k, and haven't installed any crap programs that clog up the task bar and hog resources.

As for AZPR, I tried it (cracked, of course :) ) It did take quite a while to crack some passwords. I originally got it to crack passwords that started with a "http://www.", but the estimate was that it would take 2 years or something. It takes like five minutes to find those kind of files somewhere else, so I didn't waste time cracking passwords. I tried it on a 3 letter password, and it got it in less than a second. I have also tried some online password crackers, and hacked my own hotmail account. That was easy, too easy.

Background programs, only 18!!! Plus ones I KNOW I have open. Does windows really need all those programs running?

Knowing your password and secret question probably helped ;)

LeX
June 4th, 2001, 20:38
Not enough. You would also need to know the secret answer. ;)

Canuckkev
June 4th, 2001, 21:32
Well..knowing the password doesn't matter when you use brute force to crack it(111111...111112...111113). It did help that I only cycled through 6 letter combinations, because I knew the password length already.

Coolin
June 4th, 2001, 21:34
Hmm... Interesting. Where's that Hotmail account hacker? I think my password is relatively secure: pretty long, has numbers and letters, doesn't form a word etc... But I would like to see how secure it is if I ever meet a hacker.

LeX
June 4th, 2001, 21:55
I thought the password for Hotmail is 8 characters min.

Gayowulf
June 5th, 2001, 00:01
It is now, but it was recently changed to 8 from 6. Coolin- I know a way of 'hacking' a hotmail account, but it doesnt involve your password.

Coolin
June 5th, 2001, 00:45
Actually, I wanted to check my password security, not hack. But it would be cool ;)
