Anyone used 1&1?

I was wondering if anyone has used oneandone.com ? I see their ads everywhere in lots of magazines. Has anyone the experience to know if they are as good as advertised.


I'm not interested really in their hosting, I just want to know what everyone has to say about the one and one juggernaught.

A friend of mine got one of the 1and1 free accounts and I gave their service a look. The control panel is different and their support is slower than most. Overall I'd say they are just another webhosting provider nothing special.

I have a free 1and1 account. Their control panel is difficult to use and overall clumsy compared to standards like CPanel, Plesk, ensim. But it is easy to register a domain and use it on their servers. Their control panel takes care of that.

I also have a free 1and1 account, I ahve to say that the support is kinda lousy (nowhere did I read that I didn;t have phone support, they say all accounts have 24/7 phone support...calll in and they say they cannot support me on the phone) But I don't really use it, it has SSH but...

I'd rather get a domain from them, it is much much cheaper than everywhere else, I don't know if I can use it on other servers tohugh, can we?

From all feedback I've had on them they're ok for domains but for hosting not so great.

my frd bought a dedicated server from them and he was quite happy. I also bought a domain from them and It is quite good. They even sent a brochure in the mail lol.

Brochure for the domain? I think that is an excellent idea. Surely shows their support for paid products. I would like to know of his experience with his domain, can he use it on a non-1and1 host?

I get brochures from them too on the same subject as I seem to be on their mailing list for something Grrr.

I didn't need the 24/7 part, I called in at a normal time (around 5:00) all I was saying, was that it said 24/7 phone support, it never said there was no support for the free package. I figured there would be at least some phone support, I mean they call the package "The Professional Preview" so..well anyway, I was not surprised when the guy on the other end said that he could not support me.
