Yesterday we reconnected the net modem ('D-Link DSL-200 ADSL USB Modem') and, obviously, got reconnected to adsl. Ever since then the HD is very...loud. Somewhat like a mini-jackhammer. It doesnt have to be loading anything when its humming either, just whenever its ON.
Why is that? :confused4

Could be a few things:
1) May need to be defragged.
2) It may be going bad, early signs of a bad hard drive are loud sounds.
3) Now that you have ADSL, and it's an "always on", your hard drive is performing more work and has to speed up

Is it the sound of the HD working, or is more of a vibration?

IF your hard drive is actually makeing noises it never made before, It sounds like early signs of a hard drive failure. If you haven't done it, backing up your important data wouldn't hurt. :wink2:
