An online friend of mine has been getting a WHOAL message which says "whoal will close now" and then it does! and she must reboot.

I have done a couple of searches on WHOAL and have come up empty handed. Unfortunately, I do not know what system and programs she was using.

Can anybody help me with this?

Thanks

Err... what's a "WHOAL"?

I haven't got a clue -- that's why I am asking for help. I have searched at microsoft and netscape as well as virus places and can find no mention of it. Regular search engines gave me a bunch of crap concerning a slang use as in you all or who all as well as stock quotes, but nothing in regard to an error message. Hope someone comes along who can give me some insight here.

I don' t know. "WHOAL" comes up with only 18 hits at yahoo, and most of the time "whoal" is somebody's last name. I'd suggest your friend search for "whoal" on their hard drive. Also, check under the startup tab in msconfig to see if anything named "WHOAL" is popping up at start-up.

I tried too. Same result. Names, slang, typos. Could it bee some kind of hoax program/hoax virus? If your friend doesn't find it when she does a disk search, she could try some processes killer. Kill of all known proggies until nothing else than the system tray, explorer and THE THING is left.

Thanks friends. I appreciate the time and effort you have put into this - doing your own searches and all. I will tell her to scan her drives and see if anything pops up and the same with msconfig. I will let you know if anything comes of it, but it may not be for a while.

Thanks again

Hmmm.. does your friend use AOL?
If so then the error he/sh is getting is "WAOL" which is a common America Online error.. I get it all the time. It's nothing to worry about it's just really annoying.

AOL make micro---- look cool

Yeah, IE doesn't say anything after it's completed an illegal operation and shuts down... and those bleeps and bloops of the default Windows sounds are just sorry. It'd be cool if you clicked on the menu button and some guy goes "Click!" or something... :p Actually, it'd be weird...

[ADD]
And when you X something, the guy will say "Closing!" or something stupid like "You shouldn't have done that...!" When you click on a window in the taskbar after you've minimized it and it shoots back up, it'll go "Wheee~~~~!" :D
I'm just bored........

You can do that by recording your own voice to a file and going to Control Panel > Sounds and modifying everything. I helped my friend replace the Windows startup and shutdown sound with a nice "ARSEFARTS!!!" that we recorded and added some effects to.

Yeah, I know that.. but I don't have a mic. I was saying that Micro---- should include that sort of package. ;)

I agree with Lex it should come built in and have no options to disable it.

Plus when you click the x it should pop up a few 'are you sure' boxes and maybe a couple afterwards saying how the window seems to have been closed and maybe you have something wrong with your computer!!!

So basically you're trying to say that my idea was idoitic.
