Website for a non-profit company

I have created a website for Operation Friendship, a non-profit company that provides services for seniors in downtown. I volunteered to make this site because I wanted to both improve my skills in webdesign and do something for a good cause. The site is temporarily located at http://www.quasarnet.org/friendly/ (the trailing slash is necessary.) Can you guys tell me what you think of the layout and how I can improve on it?

By the way, I know the buttons need anti-aliasing.

Hmmm... I can't put my finger on it, but the site misses something.

I think it is to blame to the whitespace, there's quite alot of it... but then it may be something else, I really don't know.
