View Full Version : demanding too much from a 'free host' ?

after 2 to 3 months of searching for a free host and not finding a decent one, im concluding that im asking for way too much, and that i will never find this 'host' that im looking for..
all i wanted was..
cgi/ssi support
24/hr ftp
at least 10 mb of space
5gb bandwidth or unlimited
99.9% uptime
very fast servers
"long lasting"
no banners
i have finally concluded, this is a dream host-- im a webdesigner, and owner of vertek.net, which has been down for so long because i cannot find a good host.. i believe that things should be free, and i have done a lot of free work for people, which means i need a free host to support my self.. but im guessing $$ comes into play somewhere.. so if i want a host like this, i must pay..
what do you guys think? is there actually a host like this out there?

www.f2s.com is the closest I can think of. Although their newer servers aren't the most reliable.

quang, I think u r dreaming a bit too much.....
5gb bandwidth, fast server as well as that much uptime.... I'm not even sure that some pay hosts can assure that, let alone a free host...
and no banners? I kinda doubt that u can all that in one package

If someone would tell you this server, the quality would change soon because a lot of people (I didn't say you) abuse such services. So don't expect to get public answers.
BTW has anyone experiences with http://www.8ung.at/ They are ad-free, but were very unreliable for a while. They changed a lot in the last time and promised to get better. I have no idea, if they are better since they use Linux.

yeh i know im asking for too much.. maybe i'll go for a paid host now-- i miss the sub domains and personal pop3 boxes! ..
and someone saying that i shud open a host such as that:
believe it or not, but me and my friend used to own a server and we hosted like crazy, it was actually 3 people in it, but when 1 guy pulled out [meaning 1 less person paying for the lines-- multiple t3s], we couldnt handle it any more.. so it went down.. its purdy good for a couple of 17 year olds.. lasted pretty long, and it was up 100%!
anyways.. yeh i do see why hosting can be complicated.. but the problem is people always want something in return.. or NEED something in return..
