Nope yours is definately correct.

phuckedup
September 3rd, 2004, 05:10
Setting up the URL forwarding worked for me, but i guess it'll take some time for the domain to become active and the redirect to start working. .info domains don't take too long though, a few hours if i recall. A whois request already works and i registered the domain an hour ago.

tried it all, none of them work, you have to have ns1.domainsite.com.

Techrad
September 3rd, 2004, 11:06
towards the middle - edit nameserver/DNS or something

Important: Please Read
ns1.domainsite.com
ns2.domainsite.com

must be entered as "Current" name servers to take advantage of our real time DNS tools and URL forwarding

If the domain name is locked, it will need to be unlocked before name servers can be edited.

-- Does that mean I add those two, then I add my host's name server's afterwards? :confused4

aki
September 3rd, 2004, 11:16
no, i think they mean you can't it unless the host has thier name server

QuestionMark
September 3rd, 2004, 11:42
so DNS is disabled then?

Corazu

No, if your host has ns1.theirsite.whatever and ns2.theirsite.whatever, then you can add thme.

DNS Management A domain name must use our NS1.DOMAINSITE.COM and NS2.DOMAINSITE.COM name servers in order for DNS Management to work. Here you can point a host name to an IP address. To point just asdfe.com to an IP address, leave the hostname field blank. To point www.asdfe.com to an IP address enter www into the host name field. To point all sub domains for asdfe.com that do not already have a host record to an IP address enter * into the host name field. You can add multiple host records for a domain name.

to change DNS u need to go to the Advance DNS Sets the Choose NS and add the nameservers 1 by 1 i think

it takes 1hr-2 hrs to have it all set up. YOu can have URL redirect, or , have it dns to a IP address (if you host your own) are the other possibilties.

I haven't tried namesecure as I don't need a domain at present. I already have three undeveloped ones :o Just cos they are free is no reason to get one if you don't need it :p If I have a brainwave, I might register one to see how all the DNS stuff works.

I wouldn't pay for stuff at a registrar like that ;)

Get it for one year and then transfer it into godaddy or namecheap or something like that. Cheaper, and more reliable.

From joker.com:

Afilias (the .info registry maintainer) offers one free additional year for every ordered .INFO domain to all registrants.
Promotion rules follow:
only registrations made between 1st of September 2004, 00:00:00 UTC and 31th of December 2004, 23:59:59 UTC are eligible.

only registrations between 1 - 9 years will be eligible. We will charge those registrations immediately as usual. As soon as we get the confirmation from Afilias, we will add one (1) year without any charge and will notify you! (Note: This is done on a monthly basis)

all .INFO registrations, including IDNs, are eligible as long as they meet all criteria.

registrants are limited to a maximum of 25 free domain years per registrant for each registrar they register with. Registrations made in excess of the maximum will not be credited.
Whether a registrant is the same registrant shall be in Afilias sole discretion.

Note that this program is provided at the sole discretion of Afilias. An analysis will be conducted at the conclusion of the program and any adjustments required to ensure conformance with program rules will be made to registrar and resellers accounts at that time.

It appears we can get 25 at each registrar :) As someone once said to me, never knock back anything free. hehe..

Joker sucks though, coz it appears you have to buy 2 years and then get one free :(

I'll keep looking for more sites.

all 25 ? hehehe wait until the bill dops into ur mailbox :)

What bill? They are free for one year, then comes the renewal notice... If you want to keep the domain, you then pay the renewal fee.

The reason Afilias is doing this is a long-term plan to increase their sales volumes.. They would probably have an aim like 3 in every free 10 domains will be renewed, there is a low marginal cost involved in the promotion, so why not do it?

You can also register .info at https://www.domaindiscover.com/ They allow DNS changes and, as far as I can tell, you can also transfer from them.

bleh, they all require credit cards now. (hostway used to not need one, but now they need it)

I should have registered more than 1 at that time. (cause I don't have a credit card XD)

Thanks, nice find!

I recently got an e-mail from iDotz saying I'm gonna lose like 10 domains I got through them unless i pay, it is because they are a reseller of DomainDiscount24 or vice versa... Damn unclear t&c of this promotion.

At least I know domaindiscover is their own registrar.

Well, I think this thread is outdated

you have to pay 1 $ per .info domain name for the first 25, then 4$ per domain name

late entry I lost the opprtunity

i dont know if this was posted but they are doing 25 also,

DOMAINDISCOVER.com offers free .info domains with no credit card required. I just signed up 4 domains with them, and it didn't ask for a credit card.
