Well, there is no one answer for that. Depends on where you go to register it. Obviously when sites quote your 'savings' they aren't comparing it to the lowest on the net. More like with Network Solutions typical prices. Not sure where they get $50 from.

Just read that link... they just want to make it uneconomical and undesireable to transfer out of their banner-domain service, that's all.
