My server has been up and running for 18 days, 22 hours, 13 minutes since I last restarted it. It might be Tera-Byte's Servers but not their connection. I have a dedicated with them.

Uptime : 18 days, 22 hours, 13 minutes

yes
i have several hours of downtime every week.
there was one period where the MySQL database would be down for hours, or even days, but it seems as though that's fixed now

last time i've mailed them about this was friday morning (US), but i've received no news yet (all previous correspendence was promtly answered)

Tera-byte have had a lot of staff on leave lately thats why emails arent being answered but now steve is back you can be sure the response times will get better.

In the last month they have been down for less than 1 hour its your isp if your having so much downtime.

not my ISP... I wouldn't claim that much downtime if i wasn't sure...

i could connect to several (10+) sites while my own was down. Several other friends (5+ all over the world) also could surf but not to my site...
Tera-byte has a great reputation, but alas not everyone has had as much luck with it as you have...

the point is i have hundreds of links on peoples websites / search engines which all lead to .php3 pages :(

so there is a good tip for anyone always email the host first and ask if it will work !

Tera-byte use Cobalt RAQ's and when u activate something on a cobalt it doesnt always go as planned. Features arent always activated when they should be. A quick email to tera-byte will fix that. That is providing you ordered one of there plans that support PHP.

It's not so hard to enable .php3 for a server. So I guess letting them know about this issue will get you a good solution right away.

Donovan,

Activating PHP on a Cobalt RAQ4 is different to the RAQ3 version. PHP on an RAQ4 is activated via the control panel on an RAQ3 its done either automatically or by editing the httpd.conf file depends on how you have setup PHP.

They support php4, not php3 and since they support php4, they removed php3. Simply upload a .htaccess to your main directory and inside of it put this

AddType application/x-httpd-php php3

That will make all .php3 extensions work w/ php4!

Or add that to your existing .htaccess if you already have a .htaccess.

My point is, I do think Tera-Byte have already installed php. I am just saying about adding something to the system files to make it recognise the .php3 extension. I don't think that it's that complicated in Raq4 is it ?

Tera-byte do not like playing with the config files they do as cobalt say and that way if there virtual servers crash only Cobalt can be blamed. As they have do everything cobalt recommended.

Which then makes the faults cobalts fault not Tera-byte's. If you read up about RAQ's Cobalt wont support any problems if you have edited files they say not edit manually.

I see.

there's two easy ways around this...

1 you can just make all .php3 files you currently have, and make them auto-redirect to the .php files (.php is always supported by PHP, so you won't have to change again later like you might have to with .php4)
2 you can simply make all .php3 files as framesets, with the only frame being the .php file.
i'd opt for 1 though
