no prob neil,
hey while your their, could you answer a question for me? i had posted it in the forum earlier today? Here's a copy of it...

well basically, i run a non profit site.

The only way to make money is to advertise. And in these days, it takes alot. Just putting banners on pages doesnt really help. I now realize how hard this email idea is, but i have been thinking of another idea

Is there a way to count how many times each user visits a site? For instance: i use a program called lockedarea to password protect my site. They can sign up and automatically be added to the members list. It stores their information like this:

Jonathan Cohn|shred444@aol.com|shred444|shred444|http://www.roboticgarden.com|05/23/2001

where the information is divided with a |. Does anyone use this script or know how to ad another | to put something like...

Jonathan Cohn|shred444@aol.com|shred444|shred444|http://www.roboticgarden.com|05/23/2001|57

where 57 is the amount of times someone visited the site.

-------------
the reason i want this is for people to plant a seed in the garden, they must first aquire a certain amount of points. when they plant a seed, it subtracts X amount of points from the count.

If you dont know what my site is about, check it out,.,,

thanks

I like the idea of your site.

Aren't you worried about hackers trying to flood your house :D

you want to get rid of some of the adverts that last popup is really off putting - the rest I could live with but not that!

lol...hackers. Havent thought of that. Well once i am able to get this cgi counter thing put in, they will have to earn the right to plant and water. So, you can flood my house, but you must visit my sponsors!

and yes, i know how annoying that last popup is. I am trying to work around it, but it seems like the only program that is allowing me to earn $$$. Maybe i will take off all the other ads on my site, and leave that popup there. Or visa versa. Dunno.

well see

:)

if you have any more comments, i would love to know!

thanks

Hi,
Yeah, that's possible, would require some editing though. Do you know much Perl?

Well not really, i would be able to recognize stuff if i knew what they were. All stuff is edited inside the locked.cgi file right? If you can point me in the right direction, im sure i could figure it out.

Do you want to start this message on the Locked Area forum because I don't think it's very appropriate for this site.
