Hi. I'm not to educated in this area, so I am turning to all of you out there. I have a site rgistered - www.alecbuck.com. I registered it 2 years ago with networksolutions. Now I just got a bill from them asking for $70 for the next two years. Can I just ignore the bill and have some other company re-register it? Someone please explain all this to me.
Thanks.

you cant re-register it until it expires even if you own it but you can renew it at network solutions or transfer it to a new registrar. just find a cheap registrar and there has been plenty of then mentioned lately. just tell them you wanna transfer different registrars handle transfers differently

you NEED to transfer it while it's still 'live' if you let it expire you'll have to use the same registrar again or wait for it to come back on the open market - where other people may steal it - if you want to keep it don't do this

Hey there,
Lucifer is right regarding this one... You definitely want to transfer your domain to a new domain registar before it expires. If it expires then the new registar might have problems renewing it and then have to wait until it is back on the open market. Which also puts you at risk of losing your domain.
Personally, I would suggest renewing your domain name with your web host if they offer that service. It's usually the most hassle free way of doing it and you can probably get some good deals that way as well...
Good luck....

Generally, a domain can be transferred, UNLESS:
1. The domain was registered or transferred less than 60 days ago.
2. The domain is ON HOLD.
3. Your current registrar has the domain locked for non-payment or other reasons.
4. The domain is expired, or will expire within 4 days.
I hope this was helpful to you...
