The definition of 'lead' varies from program to program, but most often it involves a visitor making a particular opt-in action, such as filling out a registration form, making a download or joining a mailing list.
Each merchant features a program description that should outline what the lead process entails. If no advice is given, you should mail them using CJ's internal communication system for clarification.

You must also check the sites them selves to see how easy it is to get a lead, see what you need to get the lead and then go to the site and see how easy it would be for a visitor to turn into a lead.
e.g.
site contains no pop ups/pop unders., sign up is easy and not hard, there is not loads of other banners on the page, the site looks professional, they have a good privacy statement and so on.
The privacy statmnet is not that inportant unless you care about your visitors.

And you should *always* care about your visitors. Your site is useless without them. If you screw them over, will they come back?
If you promote something on your site, you're saying something about your own site as well. If you promote good, honest sites, people will think of you as good and honest, and become a returning visitor (words that should be music to any webmaster's ears).
If you promote crap, then you are crap.
1 + 1 = 2
