Is there a good book out there for learning cgi? I know some about installing scripts, but I wanted to learn to make my own scripts.

It depends on what language you are talking about. Are you looking to make perl CGI programs or what?

yes, I want to do perl scripts. I have a hard time finding scripts that will work for me for my site, so I thought maybe it would be good to invest in a book that would teach me this stuff. I would have taken a class on it, but I was in the wrong major at the college I went to.

I just recently ordered "Programming Perl (3rd Edition)" from Amazon.com for $39... it goes over each perl function, tells you what it does and how to use it. Really helpfull to me, however I had previous experience in Perl and have written small scripts before, so this is kind of a reference or appendix for me.

If you don't know any perl at all, get "Learning Perl". "Programming Perl" is more of a reference book. Most of the book is about perl in general, but there is a chapter on CGI.

Thanks for the suggestions. I may be stopping at B&N or B.Dalton one of these days to get that book.

If you already have done some programming i would suggest the "Perl Cookbook".
Its priced DM 92,34 (40 USD?) on amazon.de.
Its based on practical examples and less on theory.
Perl references you can find alot on the net.
This one is really great as it gives you "real life" Perl applications.
Its kind of expensive though, but large also.
Its not for programming newbies though...

I have no programming experience at all. I think the Learning Perl book would be best for me.
Another question: easier to learn Perl or PHP?
