You can linux off any computer that runs windows, and you can get linux for free.

Edit: Unix..lol

yeah but it aint working... :( it's bad...

zpanel ain't bad, it's the person who uses it ;)

blackarib
December 29th, 2004, 12:10
What are you trying to imply with that, that I don't know how to use the Zpanel? I am one of the developers.

blackarib
December 30th, 2004, 17:36
Switching to linux sounds like a great idea, doesn't it. There would be several MAJOR problems if we switched to linux, we would have to redesign all of our systems around the different software packages we would be forced to use.

bequackyhost
December 30th, 2004, 17:48
Ya, but linux is so much better for hosting. Your server is about the speed of my dead gandmother crossing the street right now (which is why almost everybody gets frustraited and leaves your site), but with linux it could be three times as fast. I think that if you don't change something soon you might aswell not offer hosting. All the same though, nice try.

We are still not sure what our current problem is but we know that the server is not being overly stressed. If we were to get a new server we would definately get a linux server but it isn't quite within the budget at the moment!

bequackyhost
December 30th, 2004, 18:03
Arg blackbarb... Your server is fine. I know Windows servers, they suck. If you can't offer worthy hosting, why worry about it being offline for a while? After I switched my life got so much easier it isn't even funny.

blackarib
December 30th, 2004, 18:14
Like I say, we will try and sort out whatever our current problem is and then if we get a new server it will be a linux one.

blackarib
December 30th, 2004, 18:41
OK, I think the speed problem is solved. We have disabled sendfile and the server is running A LOT LOT faster. Please test it out and let us know if it really is fixed.

Just curious. How can you afford to provide free hosting? I can understand hosting providers giving free hosting in the hope that one will upgrade but you do not provide paid for hosting.

blackarib
January 2nd, 2005, 12:30
We have plans in the future to provide a paid for hosting plan but at the moment we just accecpt donations - (not very many - i.e. 0)

canardpress
January 2nd, 2005, 12:35
LOL, that is very sad... Maybe you could get some of your members to make templates and sell them or something. You could also make a google ad code available. My host for example is adless, but there are a lot of people that want to help out.

Oh yes, and it seems that the server is not working right now.

blackarib
January 2nd, 2005, 13:07
We are considering many different options for making money but we are as yet undecided. The server is online again.

blackarib
January 2nd, 2005, 17:13
Corrections-
1) We cannot turn off the ads because of the number of visitors we are getting (though we plan to get a domain name soon)
2) You are not viewing everything through a frame, only the first page.
3) The slow-loading problem has recently been fixed.

canardpress
January 2nd, 2005, 17:30
Are you sure about that, because after looking at your site I noticed that the url bar does not change, the only way that is possible is via frames.. I had the same problem when I was on .tk, it's a simple code that you need to fix it though.

blackarib
January 2nd, 2005, 17:36
Last time I looked the url changed. The .tk people have been making changes recently so maybe it no longer breaks out of the frame but it used to.

blackarib
January 3rd, 2005, 06:48
I just checked again and it does break out of the frame and the url bar does change.

alex_blue
January 4th, 2005, 13:41
It's extremely fast when the host is online, but only last for a couple of minutes, before it goes offline again. So basically the webhost keeps going on/off these couple of days. Maybe a hacker hits your host? Or is there other reasons for this? Thanks for your time! :-)

blackarib
January 4th, 2005, 14:03
We do not believe it to be a hacker, just a software problem that has only just appeared, we hope it is fixed now.

blackarib
January 4th, 2005, 14:45
Good news, we think we have identified the problem - a software conflict causing our connection to become unuasable until a full system roboot. This issue should now be solved. Also please note that the service could go offline for up to 15 minutes on Saturday while we perform a software update, which should hopefully improve uptime.

015179
January 4th, 2005, 15:08

blackarib

blackarib
January 5th, 2005, 12:02
No, this in no way a test of the Zpanel. I am only developing the new Zpanel v2.5, not the current v2.0 - on which there is no more development.

blackarib
January 8th, 2005, 08:38
We didn't mean a break literally, it is just that the problems have been keeping us offline. We don't want to make any more promises about the problem being fixed because we have said that a few times and it hasn't been.

blackarib
January 8th, 2005, 09:03

Like I said, we have a new website well into development, though it will not be ready for at least another month and it will not be used until we implement the new version of the Zpanel, which has not been released yet. We believe that our new website will be far more user-friendly and a better design. We may release screenshots in the near future.

blackarib
January 15th, 2005, 15:39
We have solved one of the major remaining issues with the new site, it may be operational sooner that expected. The site will have many new integrated support and errortracking systems. We are booting out the old forum (which no-one uses anyway) and replacing it with a purpose built trouble ticket system. Other features will include: user and admin sumitted tutorials, useful tools, FAQ's, fully integrated and instant signups, custom built live chat (when available), and new user-friendly, better design.

alex_blue
January 30th, 2005, 12:29
Sorry for the late reply. I must say that performance has increased a little since my last visit. 30% of my site (top frame as I'm using frames: top and bottom) is loaded in a jiffy, but the remaining 70% would only be loaded after about 2-minute time.

I would give zhosting's speed a 3.5 stars (currently) if you ask me. Keep up the good work! :)

blackarib
January 30th, 2005, 15:03
OK, we will keep trying out new things to fix the problem. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be any of the usual suspects.

blackarib
January 31st, 2005, 16:25
We have found the problem for the speed issue. It has been caused by a program using up most of the cpu, when we can find a viable replacement for this program this should solve the speed issues. We will keep you posted.

Geez this started in November 9th, 2004, with an unlimited , and it's still here??

And don't you guys have your own support? Rather than post here.

We do have our own support, but nobody uses it. Hopefully your FTP should be working now.

What's the catch?

You know those .tk email forwarders rarely work on the free accounts.

We have tried to get away from using emails to communicate, it is much easier via our forum (click on the help link on our website).

There are some system tools running at the moment which are causing the problem at this time, these should complete in the coming hours. The final solution to the problems should be within the next week hopefully.

blackarib
February 3rd, 2005, 17:47
The system tools have now finished running so you should notice an increase in speed.

At what point was the server down? Our network monitoring did not pick up on this.

You were down last night (EST), starting maybe around midnight. After I woke up this morning, you were still down (unless you were up in the middle and then went down again). I noticed you were back up around maybe 10:30 EST this morning. z.blogdns.com wasn't refusing connections, so maybe that's why the monitor didn't notice, but requests were all just sitting there without ever getting a reply.

And the extremely slow loading issue returns... Now my forum doesn't even load up within 5 minutes, only the browser title bar is showing, other than that is just blank and plain loading (of nothing). How come? Thanks in advance!! :)

The speed issue is still due to the software problem, this will hopefully be sorted soon.

I am thankfull for the account on ur server but unfortunately am unable to move beyond zpanel page.I enter details and press login and it seems loading but never loads fully. So,I have to refresh after some time.

I think its due to problem already being mentioned above but incase its not, kindly take note of this.
